Ameagari no Kibou – Hope After the Rain

^Very Unrelated, however – I sleep like that, because it’s so humid, humid ties into the rain, ie. into the song. :D

Ohayou Gozaimasu!! It’s 4:42 (am) and I’m in Tokorozawa, Saitama, Japan!! :D

Ever since I left my mother’s house just outside of DFW, Texas I travelled for *calculates* 22 hours. There were some delays with other people in the group not getting here or there, and traversing Tokyo by bus rather than train takes a lot longer than you’d expect. A lot longer. Anyway Japan is awesome. My host family is awesome. The city is awesome. Everything really. I’m even going to consider my getting halted at immigration, shuffled into a room and interrogated because someone read my visa info wrong – awesome.

So here I am, with no interwebs, typing up my post in notepad. (o/ I haven’t checked my email, bank account, or twitter account in about 36 hours. It’s crazy. Still, though it’ll take time to get used to – I think I’ll like this unplugged thing, and it’ll force me to get some real studying and work done. I can understand about 75% of what my host family says, but when I respond it’s pretty broken. I really should have attended those conversation tables…

I listened to this song a lot on the plane (Korean Air is awesome by the way) so I thought I’d translate it when I landed. I’m only getting to it now – after a bath last night I fell soundly asleep,… for 5 hours. I feel absolutely no jetlag, but when I’m not in my comfy closet I don’t tend to sleep nearly as long as I do anywhere else, so I hope that won’t be too much of a problem.

My host family was shocked when I said I’d eat just about anything, and proceeded to put a few dishes in front of me, and were like “whoa” when I liked it. Hahaha :D – I guess they aren’t used to travellers who have had anything besides sushi. Wow… the sun rises early here. The sun’s been coming up over the horizon since 4:30 am.

Well anyway, time to get ready for my first day. I’ll post about it when I get the chance. I also wrote a long meaningless “post” in my notebook during the plane ride, so I might type all that up – so you can be envious of 12 hour plane rides?

Anyway, obviously because I have no internet (although I brought my database of Touhou lyric booklets with me) my lyric posting will be seriously limited – but you guys expected that right? I’ll still post when I can – this is a habit that’s hard to kick.

 Ameagari no Kibou
 Hope After the Rain
Music by Takahiro Yamada, Masafumi Gotoh
Words by Masafumi Gotoh

So that the falling rain
Wouldn’t wash away my sadness day by day
I wrapped it in soil and waited for it to bud,
My hope after the rain

In the rain, I reached someone’s soft tears
On a clear day, I saw a small dried up frog in the road
Chasing away beyond the grey I could see blue
This first sign now shines on me

Avoiding the tiles lining the road,
A small life showed its face, shining brilliantly

So that you kneeling
At the bottom of a crevice wouldn’t dry up one day
I wrapped you in soil and waited for you to bud,
Even when it wasn’t raining

In a lightly dyed indigo sky
Where sound will travel far
A travel chime rings out
Calling for me,
“You cried, you were angry, you holed up –
But that way you won’t move forward.”

Avoiding the tiles lining the road,
A small life showed its face, shining brilliantly

So that the falling rain
Wouldn’t wash away my sadness day by day
I’m here now swearing I’ll bud

After the long falling rain,
So this seed can silently show its face
I wrapped it in soil and waited for it to bud
My hope after the rain

  1. Umm, I was wondering if you could translate a song for me ^^ It’s “Girls keep a secret” by Yellow Zebra, of the album Touhou ESCALATION.
    Thank you. ^^

    • Yeah, it’ll take me a little while because of my extremely limited internet access, but I’ll see what I can do :D

  1. No trackbacks yet.
