薔薇殺しのカーミラ // Baragoroshi no Carmilla // Koumajou Densetsu II Final Boss Theme

I used Carmilla instead of Camilla because “Carmilla” is the name of the female vampire from the original Irish novel. Camilla just sort of happened with American localization.

Is a modification of the phrase (pronounced the same as):
風立ちぬ、いざ生きめやも
Which is an old official translation of a French quote from Paul Valery’s Le Cimetiere Marin (Graveyard by the Sea):
Le vent se leve, il faut tenter de vivre.
Which is officially translated into English as:
The wind is rising: we must endeavor to live.
From the Japanese (my translation based on the article):
The wind is rising: and now none of us now wish to live.
(Even so we must endeavor to do so.)

Flip it around with the modified words:
The wind is dying: and now none of us wish to follow. (Even though we must.)
Fixing it around a bit meaning-wise:
Ah, the wind is dying: but now that it has come to this, must we die?
Fitting it back into closer form with the official English from the French we have:
“Ah, the wind is dying: must then we die ourselves?”

Endless Pain

^I’ve been introducing a lot of angel imagery lately haven’t I? / In my opinion there is no more perfect an image than this for this song…. It feels like it refers to one of the stanzas even.

I think it’s a little funny how high a percentage images of Remilia take up of my WP file-space.

I’ve been in the FELT mood for a while, and this song has been stuck in my head.

Notes:
Given the emphasis on “body” by katakana, the lyrics tend to point to the fact that Remilia living in darkness, is but a living corpse.

There are a couple of interpretations you can throw around; it’s easy to link Sakuya to the moon, as her surname (given by Remilia) means the 16th day moon. Remilia’s longing for a “body” can be simply for another (Sakuya) to be with her, but also links with her wish to have a living body herself (“moist eyes” points to a living body, rather where Remilia’s tears a scarlet/blood). You can also say that this is after Sakuya has died; her resistance by her heart to manipulate fate (“No matter what I might do”) points to the issue that if Remilia wanted Sakuya to stay by her forever, she could just make her a vampire as well, but apparently she can’t bring herself to it. The moon “scorning” her suggests that this is after or near Sakuya’s death, because it is taunting her, showing her a representation of who she wants to see, but not the person herself.

Really, I’m surprised I was able to get everything to fit without breaking any lines!

This sort of started when I was asked about a line or two in this song, and well I got curious and wanted to look at the whole song… I got a little hooked on it… and well here it is!

In my opinion, this and “狂気に満ちた不可視の珠 feat. ytr” [link] are the best tracks on this album, and that’s saying something, because this album also has a song with Ranko in it! Anyway Touhou rap at its best – you should give both a listen. (I’m not the kind to really listen to rap, but I like this… maybe it’s just that American rap is saturated with awful, awful gangsta’ stuff?)

Anyway, sorry for the lengthening haitus, I’ve been “ill” and busy with a few other things as well. I’m also spending a lot of my free time reading “文学少女”と飢え渇く幽霊, and シャングリ・ラ, both of which are awesome (especially 飢え渇く幽霊) and on which I’m planning to write reviews. There’s still a lot of stuff in C79 that I haven’t covered yet and want to cover, so you and I’ll just have to bear with it for a while (at least I finished off all my requests! Wahaha!) Ah… it may be hard for me to keep up my goal of at least one post per day of the year….

Notes:
“non-u” is non-upper-class language.
“我輩は戦慄いて腹這いである” is as upper class as upper class language can get, as to contrast her upper class with the language she uses in the song – “reverse snobbery”.
Still, my favorite book is “Doth I in Trembling Crawl” so I’m ever and always a dualist → ie. always riding the fence between two norms of upper and lower class.
“the surface floating world” → ukiyo the “floating world” is the a term for the pleasure quarters a pun on monk’s ukiyo the “world of pain and sadness”, but this floating world is, well, down to earth. ^_^v

“one shot connecting the ‘R'” I assume this is a line that would cross R to make a B and thus make R&B.
“I drink five times more than ever heard of” → “Five times the loss (ie. blood spilt ) ever heard of in heaven or earth”
Your opponent is criminal! → slightly more like a “sly drug lord/mob boss” but I figured that would work would work.

The emoticon for Beh! is an akkanbei which is the finger pulling down on the eye and sticking your tongue out. If you’ve watched anime for any stretch of time, I’m sure you’re familiar with it – but I couldn’t find a good picture of Remilia doing it, so there’s not one on this post XD.

I’ll admit – I really did just want another Remilia’s theme up. It’s been too long.

I dedicate this to – (no not really..): DarkSlime! An acquaintance I made while in Japan.
^He linked the YT of the song recently, so got me listening to it.

I got to see lily-an actually, when I went to Chokkana in Yokohama. She was performing along with Kimino-Museum (君の美術館). ^_^

I love these almost worshipful songs of the greats like Remilia and Yukari (^_^)
Sakuya comes into play at the end ヽ(╹ε╹)ノ

Note:
For Sakuya the blue rose, “blue” also means young, new, inexperienced etc. (especially when talking about plants, but the blue against red thing was too clear to overlook.)

Notes:
The first stanza sounds a little weird still, so here’s breakdown:
Think of the night as a painter that draws the two figures as well as the moon on the surface of a frozen lake, and they are all red, presumably due to the light of the red moon.

I kind of imagine a disco sort of Remilia, despite the fact that she can’t bring herself to dance.

“Alegro?” because that’s what the lyrics say, “Allegro” because at least that’s how you say it in English; I have no idea how you spell it in Italian.

TLNote: the “red and white thing” could be Reimu, so – is this the fate of Remilia if she kills Reimu? lol. She’d be bored, so she allowed herself to lose to Reimu, I like it.

TLNotes:
“will I meet them / ahead in that yet unseen light?”: I know it sounds ridiculous after saying it’s a “single one”, but English doesn’t have a gender neutral singular pronoun, so traditionally you’re supposed to use the plural if you don’t want to bother with he/she.

A couple nuance changes as usual; in the last two stanzas 還す and 戻す have only the subtlest difference in this case, so I left them the same.
