Fuyuu Kuroneko to Gakudan Souchi

Sponsored by: SH

Some parts of this translation ended up being an explanation of what’s happening between the lines (at least as far as I interpret it) rather than a translation of those lines. There are several parts that are rather confusing and feel like they should go along with a video to have cues for what the lines are referring to. I did like the shooting stars being the lights in your eyes you get as you’re blacking out or recovering from a black out.

Miriri, who left her home with no plan,
acting on little more than an impulse,
was now overcome with hunger and exhaustion;
still, she made herself travel onward.
As the rain fell upon her and wore her heart thin,
she focused on only her goal, as to not lose sight of it.
As she dragged herself along in her ragged state,
there was no one who called out to her.

Soon, Miriri was experiencing blackouts one after the other

kyuuhai detail wa uso karamu ashi waratte waratte

Decay of detail led to hallucinations and Miriri saw a black cat yawning
In audience to her pathetic dance as she stumbled over herself

The one who had caught Miriri was a vagrant, cloaked in a dark robe.
Wordlessly he held out a loaf of bread, and she leapt upon it.

Miriri’s orchestra of cats was a fantasy, but like other things we collect over time
In the time it takes us to find a place for them, we develop a dependence on them

Again and again their mewing voices whispered in her ear
As if to lure her into accepting an end that lay ahead

But by then, all the voices had vanished—

‘a, atashi no kao ni nanika tsuitemasu ka?’

“I-Is there something on my face?”

When I saw you, I was reminded of the girl I am looking for, he said.
You are about the same age, and so without thinking, I reached out to you.
The man did not talk much,
but Miriri learned he was on a journey to stop a certain girl
who had decided to abandon a path befitting of humanity.

Nemurihime to Yume no Kuusougi

Sponsored by: SH

Sorry for the long pause between this post and the previous one. I’m getting there.

Notes:
I used ‘kaleidoscope (fantasia)’ to explain the system of fantasy (in respect to the dreams) ruled by rules unknown to the speaker, which is the more literal version of what the term used by the song means.

tooku hanareta betsu no basho.

Far away—
—a girl, “Miriri”, lay unconscious as she had for the past five years.
They called her “Sleeping Beauty”, and no one knew what illness plagued her.
But on this day, just as her family had begun to lose hope—she opened her eyes.
It was as if, after having eluded her for so long, morning had finally come for her…

“Where…am I? Huh? Wasn’t I with the resistance? We were fighting…”

jibun’ no namae mo oboeteiru. shuui de namida suru kazoku no koto mo machigainaku kioku shiteiru.
keredo, nemutteita hazu no kuuhaku no gonen’kan’ no kioku wa, miriri de wa naku, canaria no mono to shite son’zai shite……

She knew her name was Miriri. She recognized her family as she watched them cry tears of joy.
However, her memories of the past five years—those years she was sleeping—were of another girl, Canaria…

kioku no kon’daku ni hidoi memai to kyoukan’kaku

The inconsistencies in her memory induced in her vertigo and synaesthesia
Was what she experienced in her overlong slumber really a fabrication?

Two perspectives disperse and intertwine in this kaleidoscope fantasia:
Why must I endure this, wasting away as I am cut into pieces!?
I would rather sleep again, and return to the other side!

usumoya wa harenu mama, kono jibun’ ni nareyou to hibi wo sugoshiteiru to, hitodzute ni seijo sama ga hikiiru

While she tried to find herself under an unyielding veil of fog, Miriri heard by word of mouth
of a resistance formed under the banner of a holy virgin.

“yappari tada no yume nan’ka janakatta. are wa, min’na gen’jitsu dattan’da……!”

“I knew it was not only a dream. All of it, all of it was real!”

Resisting the urge to run away that very moment,

She could not tell her parents, nor could she look them in the eye
She knew she should stay, but she desperately wanted to see everyone again

She could not forget the story inside her kaleidoscope memories
She could not help but feel she had left half of herself with them
Sadly but surely, they who were still fighting, off somewhere in the world
Did not have long to live, day by day death would stalk them — She had no time to waste

tameshi ni yume wo iteitemo canaria to chigai umaku wa tobanai
shikou ni karada ga tsuitekonai kore ja kare no senaka wa mamorenai—-?

Miriri tried her hand at archery, but unlike Canaria, her arrows would not soar
Her body could not keep up with her mind — How could she protect Sig like this?

But if there was some way she could return to him…

“Sig — he is still out there, somewhere. But what about Canaria…?”

“One day I will return,” Miriri wrote to her beloved family,
Before she crept silently out of the village, so that no one would find her.
She did not know how long it might take to find the resistance, or even if she could find them,
But she was driven by the desire to be back with them as soon as possible.

atashi no ibasho wa, kitto ano senaka no uragawa.
tatoe mou tatakaenai to shitemo…… yappari soko ni itain’da

I belong there beside him, standing with my back to his.
Even if I can now longer fight… still I long to be with him.

Sousei Providence

The title here is spitefully ironic, as “providence” generally refers to the protective care of God – “So this is all the care He gives.”

There once was a small village with no name,
Where the villagers all held a firm belief in God, and lived their lives modestly.
Among them was a particularly devout husband and wife, they say.
Loved by all, they lived in peace and harmony, sharing in a humble happiness together.

However, there was one respect in which they were misfortunate.
Long had they tried and failed to have a child together.

The wife prayed to God —
The husband prayed to God —

Then at long last, everyone in the village rejoiced, for a child was born!
 So it should have been…

Was the chorus of their birth cries in sorrow of this mistake?
For to be twins was a unforgivable sin in God’s eyes

Behind their backs, they were called irregularities — monsters
In all aspects but one they were identical, only their piety — their distance to God
 was not uniform.

Entrusting countless hopes and dreams and love into this single wish,
Rifle placed her hand on her sister’s. “Will you come away with me?”

Unable to flatly refuse, she gently — as in a warm embrace, promised her sister this:

Rifle… Don’t worry. I will always be with you… forever.
