Anticipating Reitaisai 9 (博麗神社例大祭9)

Last Updated (2012/5/24 @ 23:11)

At best, these are just my opinions. Feel free to disagree with me ^^;

01 – RD-Sound’s 彩 “irodori” [*]

This album is RD’s all about instrumentals on overdrive. Following RD-Sounds on twitter (@rdwithleaf) has made me ever more and more excited about this album as he talked about striving to embed stories into his music without lyrics and trying out new sub-genres. The xfd screams with power. If you liked 趣 “omomuki” this is that and more. It helps that most/all of the main original tracks are some of my favorites. Every track is special, so that I don’t even want to pick a favorite – at least until I’ve heard the full album. The vocal tracks work as a perfect binding, and you all know how much of a ridiculous Merami fan I am, so I really don’t need to say anymore. Apparently there’s a mystery 7th track.

If all goes well, I should have a hard copy of this one (˵╹∀╹˶)

01 – Sally’s シンドローム “Syndrome” [*]

The xfd for this album hasn’t come out yet, but I’m putting it up here anyway at #3, because Sally has done nothing but amaze me since its inception. This album’s a 紅魔郷 (ESoD) arrange CD based on requests from fans. I love 紅魔郷’s music and really, its most powerful tracks (Remi/Flan,Sakuyax2,Patchoulix2,Hong) were selected (I requested Voile!). Sally retains its Chatax2,Rankox2,Iznax2,Merami format, and the titles suggest two whipser raps by Chata, a emotionally ramped “plaza” track by Ranko, a heavy rock (MIRROR STYLE) with IZNA, and more.

I’ll comment more as soon as I the xfd is released. (RELEASED!!)

Awesome guitar and piano on the first track “taste”. It’s a great addition to Septet arrangements – one of the best I’ve heard – those whisper vocals never lose.. The second track is making me fall apart!!! “Plaza-On Impulse” Just being able to hear Ranko sing such a driven arrangement of “Maid and the Pocket Watch of Blood” feels like a privilege I don’t deserve. The third track, カーニバル “Carnival” is so idiosyncratic I LOVE IT. Hell, if Sally released a generic sounding Voile arrangement I’d be fine, but something like this… it’s got its own attitude, like it’s not ready to lose to the other popular tracks on this album. The fourth track sounds like Foreground Eclipse given a drink to mellow it out and paired with some full-bodied guitar that just seems to fill the room…. Ah Merami…. – The fifth track ナイフ “Knife” is fast-paced with a great beat and just fantastic guitar. Man, IZNA’s sounding awesome this album. When I first heard her in the first Sally album, I wasn’t so sure I liked her voice – but she’s great in this album – and so HANAVI, is great. Sallified perfectly. I’m really glad con ~痕~ is a Chata whisper track. I’m frankly tired of all the techno-crazed, rock-crazed versions of U.N.Owen. At this point, you have to be original with it (like RD) for me to stand to listen to it. This is that. \o/

03 – Pizuya’s Cell’s EXCELSIOR [*]

Whatever this genre is, I love it.

The first track we hear, “EXCELSIOR” blows me away – Is this some sort of swing? – and it just doesn’t stop.
The second track we hear, スペクタクルドリーム “Spectacle Dream” continues with the awesomeness – and that flute!
The third track we hear, “DD” – is more of that awesome flute.
The fourth track we hear, “Old Nezumy” is more with distortion, and 3L putting more in the tone of her voice.
The fifth track we hear, 八雲紫のタイムマシン “Yakumo Yukari no Time Machine” is adding great guitar instrumentals to the above!

I want to just infinite loop this xfd and jam. Unfortunately we only get to hear 5 tracks, (1,2,3,4,9) but nothing we hear is anything but perfect.

03 – Shibayan’s TOHO BOSSANOVA [*]

I’ve slowly been warming up to Shibayan’s bossanova, but just from the xfd I can tell that this album’s a step up from everything bossanova he’s done before. He was just experimenting with it before (since his early music was sort of like bossanova even with it was more like techno/trance – possibly excluding noise, but you could argue his noise is this way to an extent too…) but this is it in pure form, and in a full album. Shibayan, 深水チエ, and Mano (from <echo>Project) *content sigh*. This music makes you want to do that. Relax. I’ll be listening to this album on loop for a while I think, especially because it works so perfectly as an album – all the tracks blend perfectly together well.

I absolutely love 泡沫と繭, たまにはSUNを, Fraud, I promise, 渡し舟の娘, フリフリおじょうさま, Je cherche un oiseau, Bom dia, 迷子のエコー, Otemba de Jane-yo, Shadow of the boundary ; of course – all of them. It’s hard enough to put them in any order, because I love the last almost as much as the first.

05 – Riverside’s metamorphoXIs [*] (HTML encoded in SHIFT-JIS)

This rocks my socks off. I’ve been given a few peeks at Riverside via requests, and they’ve got a great hip (?) idiosyncratic sound, and I’d say it really is -absolutely- impressive that all of the (erratically different) main vocals are done by 秣本瑳羅 (Matsumoto Sara).

I am absolutely in -love- with “Old River”, “The Abyss”, and “燬”, they stand out like crazy. Right under that would be “scape”, “Cendrillion”, “赫い絲”, and “いと儚き燿の如く” (sounds kinda like non-rap TAMAONSEN www) – then the rest. Also, as a side-note “好きに暮らせばいいんじゃよ。” is hilarious.

I’m officially paying attention to Riverside now.

05 – Syrufit’s Blossom [*]

I’ve said many, many, many times that Syrufit has ups and downs.

This is an UP.

My Shibayan inclinations force me to recognize “R.I.N.” as the best track – but “monochrome”, “Solitude Children”, “Coward”, “Cloudy, later fair”, “lost thing”, “Close to you (and me)”, “the starry heavens (Radio Edit)”, “invulnerable”, and “aqua” – you take any of these tracks, and they’re better than the best track of anything I list below.

If half of this album was complete garbage I’d still heartily recommend it.

If it weren’t for the fact that I’m slowly drifting away from this genre and have developed extreme preferences for RD-Sounds and Shibayan and Sally, this would be number 1, but as it stands with my current preferences, it’s tied with metamorphoXIs.

05 – monochrome-coat’s “es” [*]

Only the first song is not from Ten Desires, but let’s get to what’s important.

You know what this is? This is a Merami-Only album. All but one of the songs’ lyrics are written by her.

You know what this is? This is the album where Sally’s 古きユアンシェン (Yuanshen) arrangement ended up. (That “one song”)

Excited yet?

“escapism” is spectacular and so is “SIN”. NSY (from Sally)’s guitar solos in both are just his style, and mindblowing. I’ve been in the habit of being tired of 平安のエイリアン “Heian no Alien” arranges, but Sの悲劇 “S no Higeki” keeps things fresh with off notes and great rhythm and winding melodies. 転生輪廻 “Tensei Rinne” surprises me, because I never thoguht that Mima’s Reincarnation could sound so great in a slow song. 隠レン坊 “Kakurenbou” again sounds better than I would expect out of a smoother arrangement of 妖怪裏参道. PON! POKO! PON! … All great vocalists (Ranko/Merami/Matsumoto Sara/many others) need their moe song! With the rock background it doesn’t really clash and it’s kind of fun hahaha… I absolutely love the instrumentals in the back of “cathartic effect” with the subtle guitar and tech. “desire” sounds sort of like the new tracks on Trojan Green Asteroid, I like it. And now for my favorite track from 東方神霊廟 Ten Desires! 幻影セレナーデ “Gen’ei Serenade” feels just so “clear” if I had to put a word on it. The instrumentals are simple and allow Merami’s voice to ring among the other instruments like bells.

All the tracks are great, but if I had to pick favorites it’d have to be escapism, SIN, 隠レン坊, and 幻影セレナーデ, and probably cathartic effect too…

08 – 豚乙女 (Buta-Otome)’s 実は繊細な貴女とたまに勇敢な私のなんだか騒いでるって話。”Jitsu wa Sensai na Anata to tame ni Yuukan na Watashi no nan da ka Sawaideru tte Hanashi.” [*]

Long title eh?

I haven’t been keeping up with Buta-Otome as well as I’d like, but this looks like it’s going to be another good solid album. All of the tracks have a lot of life to them. 切れた糸 “Kireta Ito”, acoustic 紅い記憶、白い未来 “Akai Kioku, Shiroi Mirai”, and 一人ゲーム “Hitori Game” (Ranko has a way with 御伽の国の鬼が島) are absolutely awesome.

リボリーダー・アライン “Revoleader Align” and 丁か半か色即是空” are great… I could go on.

いつもの二人 “Itsumo no Futari” is a completely different take on Imperishable Night, and it sounds pretty cool.

(I’ll add to this when I’m less tired…)

08 – 岸田教団&THE明星ロケッツ Kisida Kyodan & The Akebosi Rockets’ .JP [*]

I’m really happy to see new Kisida.

Their sound’s pretty constant and consistant, but while I’m not absolutely crazy about ’em… I’m kinda crazy about… who am I kidding? – Who isn’t crazy about these guys? *dance dance*

It helps that there’s a Greenwich Arrangement, a G Free arrangement, and a Desire Drive++ arrangement.

My favorites are DesireDrive and 無重力 SINKER “Mujuuryoku SINKER” but I can see myself infinite looping any of these tracks. Just wonderful! All of it!

10 – 死際サテライト (Shinigiwa Satellite)’s CONDEMNED EP [*]

As a demo we get to hear the full track: 追憶ディザスター “Tsuioku Disaster” and it makes me really excited. It’s wonderful stuff. I always want for more male vocals but as long as they keep to Chikage and Merami I can keep them as one of my favorite groups. Who thought “Flower of Japan” would sound so good in this genre? I’m tempted to try to transcribe more of their lyrics, but it’s hard to do….

10 – flap+frog’s Bitter [*]

Fantastic Jazzy Coffee Shop Keyboard+ Instrumentals.

Flat Out Love it.

12 – signum/ii’s Invitation Sign [*]

signum means “sign” and it’s cittan*’s new branch group – set to replace ENS for me, unless they change drastically with their next release.

Why? We’ve got rough tracks, powerful tracks, and even some purely ENS-style tracks (きりん’s there as is Amateras)

Why? Because 秀美の具現, Scarlet Abyss, INVITATION SiGN, Autumn flow, 曇り硝子の答えでも, Finally here (signum/ii Remix), and all of the other tracks make me headbang and dance in my chair.

Why? Because I love group leaders that write their own lyrics (ENS was like this when Izumin and Nayuta headed the group).

Anyway – we’ll see. If きりん and 黒鳥 wows me at C82 I might change my mind….

12 – Poplica*’s Poptrick [*]

Poplica*’s keepin’ his style. Maybe only nuanced from Syrufit – or maybe it’s Syrufit that’s branching away more… but hey. Liking it. He’s letting his arranges go a little more rough (a trend seen in his last album). I definitely like it, but nothing’s standing out to me too much, other than it’s got a good enjoyable beat to it….

Wait. “Paint it for” just made me change my mind. This is some good Cytokine is what it is, and “wish to the moon” leaps forward in a sort of Poplica x Kimi no Museum!

Ambigu’s not bad, and now we’re back to some good stronger Poplica* than in the start. “Resolution” is beautiful, and almost FELTy. (Am I going to have to retract that statement about Poplica* sticking to a style?) – I’ll go ahead and add that I think “Rapture” has potential – I’m a little worried about the FELT-leaning trend now though.

14 – Alstroemeria Records’ ABANDONED DANCEHALL [*]

^Alstroemeria’s website was destroyed a few months ago so that’s just a link to the xfd.

I love a few of the track moments (around 1:30 is one example) but we don’t have much information (no track names), but we do know that Sanae’s the covergirl. Since it’ll be harder to go into details without that extra information I’ll just sum up the album in a sentence (as Masayoshi Minoshima really knows how to make an album “one”). I really like the tract at 4:45.

Not as good as Killed Dancehall, Not as good as Haunted Dancehall, but it still makes me want to party. I’ll probably zip through the lyrics on this one as soon as if comes out.

14 – Alice’s Emotions’ FORLANE|REI / FORLANE|SANA [*]

Another REDALiCE/t+pazolite Dual Album! (I love t+pazolite).

Very similar to the other REDALiCE/t+pazolite OVERTURE|KANA OVERTURE|SUWA (which I liked decently overall and loved a few songs), but noticably better overall.

Typical REDALiCE, but smoother this time, and I don’t know what it is, but I’m really liking it this time around. Maybe it’s that hot Rizuna+Sakaue-Nachi duet “Stray Twins”. (I fall for Rizna). We’ve also got our first vocal Trojan Green Asteroid arrangment “Cross World”, and it’s pretty great, and by a vocalist I haven’t heard of before. “Old Blood” is the kind of lite-hardcore I’ve been craving lately. “Shine Like a Star” is beautiful. Love t+pazolite’s remix of Last Time (if you like t+pazolite, check out his Hardcore Tano*c stuff) -> and now on to the second half!

Typical t+pazolite, also a bit smoother I’d say – but I’m not complaining. Loving the t+pazolite w/ male vocals in つまらない夢の終わり, “I Will Never Forget You”‘s not bad, the 3L track “The Wheel of Darkness” brings a little pop into the mix and I think it’s definitely a plus for the SANA disk. I’m surprised to see Kimi no Museum’s fi-fy, but I her track’s not bad. “Sweets in the Spell”…….. I never thought I’d hear an IOSYS’y (well it IS あゆ) cutesy version of Eastern Dream… thought it was impossible… but I guess not – hahahaha. REDALiCE’s “Border of Love” track on this album is pretty simple but it’s easy listening. Enjoying bits of “Oblivion” and “Star Light Magic”, but I hope they dip rougher in the full versions.

Overall I’d say REI’s better than SANA, but “The Wheel of Darkness” and つまらない夢の終わり make SANA worth it I think.

14 – ARM’s Distant [*]

This album’s actually pretty awesome. You hear some of ARM’s favorite carnival-like music which I’m not 100% sure I like yet, but every track has character to it. It’s a taste of IOSYS without going overboard. It’s not as good as “Bloom” but it’s the closest thing I’ve seen yet.

“bark at the moon” is awesome, and you can dance to 犬走りダッシュ “Inubashiri Dash” – 彼方 “Kanata” is lovely, “distant” feels like a night cityscape. “memories” is kind of like a strange spectacle. 赤い靴はどこへ “Akai Kutsu wa Doko e” is that carnival stuff with electro-moe voices… but hey, it might grow on me.

17 – Sound Sepher’s IDEA [*]

Great instrumental/electric arrangements of all the original tracks from Trojan Green Asteroid (+ others).

That is all.

18 – FELT’s Stand Up [*]

Not as good as Silver Drive.

Every FELT album before this one I’d rate just about exactly the same – except Silver Drive. Silver Drive broke out a little bit I think, but I’m afraid this one’s drifting back towards “the same”, but still is distinctive. If anything I just think that it’s an indication that FELT’s timidly sort of poking around to see if it can branch out.

My favorites are “World Around Us”, “Silent Star”, “Innocent Eyes”, and “Free Your Mind” in that order.

I don’t think “Innocent Eyes” is nearly as good as… say “Plan Doll” and “Flower Flag” (others that have traditionally filled that track.02 slot), but it is different. At least it feels that way, and I think that’s a step in the right direction. The album is a bit more balanced (like Silver Drive) rather having just two songs carry the entire album (ex: Fairy Queen, all the other tracks are OK, but hot damn are “Endless Pain” and “Plan Doll” -way- ahead of the rest. // I don’t like it when albums work like the L.A. Lakers – one, maybe two carrying the team.)

I still think “Endless Pain” is the best track FELT has ever produced and I’m waiting for the time when they outdo it, because when they do (I’m hoping: “when” not “if”) I’m sure it’ll knock me to the floor. This album kinda of feels like they’re timidly expanding a little.

Another comment I’d like to make is: There’s no way Satori’s that tall.

19 – Get in the Ring’s Arcadia [*]

I like “Marginal Glaze”, “希望の閃光”, “寂しがりやのクイックシルバー” and “Dead End Screamer” (unfortunately this track really just reminds me of how much better “The Abyss” by Riverside is), but I can’t really get hooked on the other tracks as much, but it’s definitely not a bad album – I definitely don’t dislike any single song… Maybe it’s just the lack of genre consistency that throws me off a little.

The one thing I really like about the album in general is the fact that only one song is based on -one- original, and all the others are based on 2-8 with an average of 4.

20 – Zytokine’s ZEphyr [*]

This album feels almost identical to “1⑨ –イチマルキュウ–” which I really liked.

It really has that same feel, and I haven’t really been paying much attention to Cytokine/Zytokine so I can’t say too much specifically, but I like the album pretty well as a whole. My favorite is overwhelmingly “arise ancient music -reconfirmed-” but I really like “Equality” and “imaginary girl” – and “Plastic Mind”‘s not bad either.

21 – Crest’s 月悠インサニティ “Getsuyuu Insanity” [*]

A decent album.

Nothing jumps out at me too much… but I like Cherose’s vocals and in particular really enjoyed レゴリスの砂時計 and 月悠インサニティ “Getsuyuu Insanity”. 漂空リヴァーサル “Hyoukuu Reversal”, sounded sort of like yonji with female vocals.

22 – Sound CYCLONE’s Sparkle [*]

Something to put on in the background. Sound CYCLONE got my attention via Flowering Night 2011, but this album’s not exactly made of the stuff that pulled my attention; it’s much more laid back.

I really like the disco track 待宵ダンシング! “Matsuyoi Dash”, “skywatcher” and “Stuffy” – “Everlasting (it’s you)” isn’t bad either.

Basically the second half of the album’s more my style wwww.

Anime Family Project

This is just something fun and silly. I was busy today furniture shopping and stuff and I wanted to wind down, so here we go. This is my perceived/ideal anime/manga/light-novel/visual-novel family. Done in the style of Honya-chan’s post: [link]

I’ll translate “I Wish” and maybe another tomorrow, but I’m going to finish up the last volume of Dantalian no Shoka first.

Persona: Oshino Meme 忍野メメ (Bakemonogatari/Kizumonogatari)
-Runners Up: Usami Renko (Touhou Project), Tedzuka Rin (Katawa Shoujo), Sekiguchi Tatsumi (Mouryou no Hako), Hinasaka Nano (Bungaku Shoujo), Tokiko (Touhou Project), Sakamoto (Nichijou).

Alright, alright – I know I’m giving myself a little too much credit here, but let’s just say it’s my aim. Individualistic, aloof, peculiar, crazy about the language and meaning of language and stories and mythologies and tales and the occult and what it all means apart from itself. I hold a mix of fascination and disrespect for religion, believing in what I will, and seek balance above all else. No heaven or hell, give me the in between. I have no way for all of you to be happy, that’s impossible. But I’ve got a way for you all to be miserable, Araragi-kun. Will you take it? I also tend to roam a lot in and out of jobs and have an abnormal sleeping schedule.

Notes on the Runners Up: Usami Renko reflects my mentality and views and science, but I’d sooner be her friend than be her and tear apart the Merry and Renko squad. Tedzuka Rin reflects my non sequitur, but I’m no longer a visual artist. Sekiguchi Tatsumi reflects my previous propensity to break down, and I’d say his power level’s level with me. Hinasaka Nano reflects my reintroduction and rather new love for literature itself. Tokiko reflects my inhuman-ness and Sakamoto reflects my facepalm.

Mother: Amano Tooko 天野遠子 (Bungaku Shoujo)

Hey you’ve got to start your path to youkai/kaii adventures somewhere right? Having mom a youkai herself is a treat. She may try really hard for passable cooking, but it’s her stories that make her the best. (Also, have you -seen- adult Tooko?) Gotta keep writing to keep mom from going hungry though, so I’ve got to travel all over to find stories for her. Hahaha.

Father: Yuuki Shinjuurou 結城新十郎 (UN-GO)

Searching for the truth, always searching for the truth, and that’s how he ended up like Araragi-kun, having a demon like that tied to him. He wanders around solving mysteries and exposing souls. Mom thinks the stories he hands to her are a little harsh sometimes, but they’ve definitely got flavor. Your father’s always got to be someone you kind of respect and kind of can’t help but looking down on at the same time. Someone you can only take seriously half the time, but reveals to you some truths you can’t find anywhere else.

Uncle: Chuuzenji Akihiko/Kyougokudou 中禅寺秋彦/京極堂 (Mouryou no Hako)

Man does uncle have a power complex. But this guy sees religion through and through. You’ve got to respect him for that. Hell, what I do is similar to what he does. He’ll spend three episodes discussing the meaning of a word and when you ask, “What was that all about?” and he answers, “Didn’t you come here to ask the question I just answered?” you’ll really lose your head.

Aunt: Aozaki Touko 蒼崎橙子 (Kara no Kyoukai)

Definitely a witch to be feared. You don’t want to accidentally let the a in oba-san to hang over another syllable or you’ll be running for your life. A doll-maker and specialist in emptiness, barriers and boundaries and magic of all sorts. Any one who on whim would say “Wouldn’t it be awesome if we made your arm able to touch ghosts? I’ve been thinking you need an upgrade,” is great and terrifying to be related to. And those dolls…

Wife: Takeda Chia 竹田千愛 (Bungaku Shoujo)

Any one who loves you enough to kill you is great to have for a wife. You don’t see us around too often though, because – well – it’s dangerous. A champion of fools and masks and looking right through everyone else’s, her manipulative power is off the charts, but she’s a good girl.

Big Sister: Kunagisa Tomo 玖渚友 (Zaregoto)
-Runner Up: Nori (Hidamari Sketch)

Big sis’s got savant syndrome and she’s got it bad. You’ve got to be in the right state of mind to talk to her, even if she’s dumbing things down for you, but her off track thinking is refreshing. She keeps to her room most of the time, but we have “reunions” every now and then. Maybe just to see if I’m worth listening to.

Little Sister: Kokutou Azaka 黒桐鮮花 (Kara no Kyoukai)
-Runner Up: Araragi Karen (Nisemonogatari)

The supreme imouto, with brother love and tsundere all packaged in. Always flooding over with emotion and magic from mentoring with Touko. She’s always a noisy one, but sometimes that’s good too.

Big Brother: Kamina (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)
-Runner Up: Okabe Rintarou (Steins;Gate)

Mindless and inspiring. Like all big brothers should be. He’s always trying to get me to “unite” with him for some grand something or another, but when he gets in one of those moods, it’s probably best to ignore him. Somehow he always wins.

Little Brother: Hugh Anthony Disward (Dantalian no Shoka)
-Runner Up: Battler (Umineko no Naku Koro ni)

Takes care of Dalian for me most of the time. He’s got a better balance of truth and knowledge than Dad’s ever had, and definitely takes Mom’s love of literature. Nowadays he likes to go flying with my daughter, a kind of mentor thing that I’m not sure she fully approves of, but all’s well. I love to remind him about how mom used to make him wear frilly dresses.

Daughter: Elizabeth Beurling (Strike Witches: Suomus)
-Runner Up: Shinonome Hakase (Nichijou)

Stubborn. Just stubborn. A magnificent pilot and a fine witch but sometime’s she’s just hard to deal with. I guess all daughters are like this, one way or the other?

^Nice to see he’s made friends.

Son: (Adopted) Okumura Rin 奥村燐 (Ao no Exorcist)

So he’s the son of Satan. He’s a good kid, and his cooking makes up for all the years mum had troubles. I always need to watch and make sure he doesn’t get too involved in what I’m doing because he’ll want to get more involved, but he’s got heart.

Pet: Dalian (Dantalian no Shoka)

Frustrating at times, as she kicks and bites, but Huey knows how to deal with her and she’s a ridiculous help whenever I need to research something that’s been lost to the world.

Maid: Izayoi Sakuya 十六夜咲夜 [Shimadoriru’s Version] (Touhou Project – Before Koumakyou)

I always get the feeling something’s eating her, and it’s as if she can barely hold in her disdain for everything, but she does the best job in the world and I don’t mind having to look after her.

Magical Item: Etheldreda (Zanmataisei Demonbane)
Runners Up: Oshino Shinobu (Nisemonogatari), Rasiel (Dantalian no Shoka)

Extremely powerful, and you never have to go through hoops to convince her to do anything. Plus, she’s always got your back. Sometimes I’ve got to make sure I keep her ruthlessness in check, but I never have to worry when she’s around.

Merry Christmas / Happy Festivus and All Other Holidays This Season

^In the flesh. Or if you don’t feel like admitting to yourself for whatever reason that the one pictured above is Kafka Fuura, think of that person as the one who writes for her/him/it. Also that piece of paper I’m holding up – psychic paper. Yeah. (嘘です).

It’s been a while since I’ve done a “useless/aimless” post. Here goes!

So, Happy Holidays! Maybe I should have worn a Santa hat, but I’m not very festive.

I don’t know. I really don’t have much to say, but first of all I’d just like to thank everyone for their continued support. I was a little bit of a mess (nocturnal class-skipping hikikomori for starters) when I first decided to post “Siren” on livejournal (the first song translation I had done I felt confident about; and yeah I spent six months on livejournal before moving to wordpress). Back then I didn’t really know if anyone was looking at my stuff and I didn’t really care, now I’ve got a load of work and expectations to fill. I mean, because of you all I’ve built up something I can be proud of. I’m nearing 600 song translations (not to mention the various other stuff I did) in three years. That’s ridiculous. Now I’m not saying that’s ridiculous because I’m saying “Hey, look – I’m awesome aren’t I?” I’m saying that’s ridiculous because that’s totally beyond me. There’s no way I could have done that – I hardly believe it myself… so it means that you all must have done it, or rather pushed me to do it, I could have never have done it without a constant drive. I broke through the boundaries of my University’s Japanese department and made translating my thing because of all the amazing things I found about about the Japanese language through translating lyrics and later, stories. If you’ll believe me, I made Bs in Japanese before I started all of this. I’ve become a product of this site. I wrote the site and the site rewrote me.

You know, the other day I got an email from someone saying I had inspired them. I’m not sure if you can imagine how that feels and I’m not sure I can describe it. I’m still blown away by the very thought.

While I’m thanking all of you in general I would like to specifically thank those who have donated. When I first set up donations I was truly in financial straits and those few people who donated then actually helped me eat a little better from time to time so really guys, thanks a ton – you know who you are. Everyone else who has donated (since I’ve come back up from the metaphorical sea floor), you’ve really made me feel like what I’m doing is worthwhile and that means millions to me (you are also quite few in number so, feel special guys).

2012 still pretty much looks like a blank slate for me, which is a bit scary. You find out by the time you’re 22 that at that post-graduation-real-world-stage if you haven’t got the next 3-5 years or so planned out you’re a lower class citizen for it. I might be going to work in Japan, I might be going to graduate school for a degree in translating, I might fail at all my ventures and have to slave away to keep refueling my savings (I never want that to hit bottom ever again; I like eating…). I’m thinking I want to write more in general and thinking I want to read more in general and translate longer pieces of work, and dabble more in professionalism in regards to all of that, but I don’t see myself abandoning this site. At least not for another year. I’m actually constantly wondering what more I can do with it. Part of me wants to get a reading circle going, part of me wants the site to have more guides and tips on learning Japanese or on translating in general, part of me wants a community contributor pool for translating things – but free wordpress has a lot of limitations, I really don’t know how much anyone is interested in any of that, some of my ideas for projects are a little more bold in stepping right on that copyright infringement line/issue, and a lot of things would only be practical if I had about 10x as many viewers as I do now. (I don’t have a great ground to compare to, but I consider my visitor stats to be pretty modest). So I wanted to ask – what do you all think?

Maybe I itch for change too much? Perhaps it’s a ghost of that innovative spirit that was with me in Electrical Engineering (and which was most of the reason I quit it, ironically).

Back to thanking people. More as a response out of respect rather than fearing the letter of the law, I could have all my images and all my lyrics translations and short story translations and doujinshi translations and whatnot stripped from my site at the request of the original authors. Japan is rather more lax about copyright (implicitly) than the United States is, but in Japan there is no such thing as a fair use clause (this is why has so few images), and honestly I can’t imagine any organized body giving a crap about the time or effort I’ve spent on anything. So, I was, especially in the beginning, afraid that someone would come and tell me to take something down. Instead I had a few artists follow me on twitter and say how cool it was that I was translating their lyrics. RD himself, the lyricist I respect the most out of anyone, told me how thrilled he was that I was translating his songs (and I always feel infinitely bad that I can’t do those songs more justice). One day, I hope to have a legitimate license to translate something, but until then I’m riding on everyone’s graces. ( – and if I won the lottery or something there are so many people that I owe, so many…)

If everything goes according to plan, hopefully you’ll see some original stuff written by me. I hope that it won’t be awful, and I hope that at least a few of you will find it interesting. Whenever I write, it tends to veer towards the phantasmagorical, Touhou is sort of phantasmagorical – yeah I’m not going to promise anything – everything I write might be awful but that’s for the future to decide. (Not me!)

I feel like I’m sharing a lot today (my image too!) so I’ll go ahead and share my 2012 resolutions:

・Write every single day, either in English or Japanese.
・Study for the Kanji Kentei (日本漢字能力検定試験) (level 3 or 2).
・Live in Japan for a minimum of 3 months or have plans for 1+ years by the end of 2012.
・Have at least one draft of a story that is theoretically ready to publish.
・Bring Student Debt < $10,000
・Collaborate with someone on a project
・Order no more than 6 figures + 1 per 6 volumes of Light Novels read (Visual Novel==2 LNs).
  ^I'm not addicted I swear
・750+ translation posts or 1000+ total posts.
・Complete a 50+ hour class visual novel. (probably something by nitro+ or Umineko)
・Participate in NaNoWriMo (participating means 20k+ words by the end)
・Finish 4 LN/Novel series.
・Attend an "event" (I've never yet once in my life been to an anime convention).

It'll be a busy year ahead.

I'm looking forward to ranting to myself and (hopefully) entertaining you all as well.

Thank you.

PS: Don't forget to watch the Doctor Who Christmas Special Today!!!

Anticipating C81

^I’m old enough to be your grandmother’s grandmother’s grandmother’s grandmother’s grandmothefr’s… are you sure about this? ( ̄ー ̄)ニヤリ

Lately I’ve been in love with Miss Kaku Seiga Nyan Nyan, so you’ll be looking at her for a while.

So I figured I’ve taken enough time getting to this; C81 is just around the corner. I’ll be updating this as more album XFDs become available and if there’s something I haven’t taken a look at that you want me to – just refer me to it in the comments!

I’m still trying to get to requests but it’s definitely going to be slow for the rest of the month and probably into January. Just sit tight – I’ll attack the new C81 stuff right away after the new year :3

My tastes aren’t exactly the norm, and since this ranking is based on crossfades and more on what I’m looking forward to than what I think is best – this is by no means a proper ranking.

This is what I’m anticipating for this year’s winter Comiket, C81!

[This post will be continuously updated until the end of the year, though it is not a sticky post, you may find it by clicking on the link in the right sidebar.]

01 – Demetori’s “BEGIERDE DES ZAUBERER” [*]

We’ve had to wait a long time, but it’s finally here. Demetori’s 6th 7th album (the first isn’t Touhou). If you’ve never listened to Demetori before, they’re the ones that have brought the most amazing Touhou Hard Rock Instrumentals mankind has ever made into existence. There’s no question at all in my mind that this group is the best of it’s genre, far far far ahead against any other. If you doubt me, go find and listen to 曼衍珠汝華 ~ Nada Upasana Pundarika (C77). There’s no fault to find. I am particularly excited about プラスチックマインド ~ Alice in Underground because it’s extremely rare for us to get a Plastic Mind arrange (the least loved Alice theme), リジッドパラダイス ~ Dawn of the Dead (because I flat out love this theme), メイガスナイト ~ Frenzy Night (“”), デザイアドライブ ~ Desire Dream (“”). Unless they’ve redone it (which knowing them, they may have), Strawberry Crisis!! is a re-release from 流麗祭彩2.

02 – Sally’s “サドマゾヒズム” (Sadomasochism) [*]

Holy hell. And I was starting to worry that I placed my expectations for this group too high after their first release “Sally”. This album, paired with “Sally” (almost) completes 東方神霊廟~Ten Desires. In my opinion this album looks like it’s going to be more balanced than “Sally”. While every track on “Sally” was great, I think if you put Mirror and min~眠~ next to IZNA’s tracks… well IZNA was going to lose out. That’s not the case this time around. The sort of “energy” is more level (alright, plaza is a little more energy packed…). I don’t have much more to say other than I really hope this collaboration keeps on going! Here’s my favorite tracks in order: L∞p (I’m quite a fan of “Desire Drive”), コウモリ, サド, ~enn~ 淵, 霊魂ミソロジー, plaza Blue age, 新規テクストドキュメント – to put this ranking in perspective, when I heard the first track I was sure it was going to be my favorite, and then when I heard the second track I was sure it was going to be my favorite… and though 新規テキストドキュメント is at the end, it’s still one of my favorites. plaza Blue age is smashing good too.

02.1 – Alstroemeria Record’s “Killed Dancehall” [*]

Am I foolish to think that this was made just for me? I was hoping for anything close to Haunted Dancehall this time around, and this time we have spectacular vocal arrangements of Romantic Children (by 坂上まち!!!), 月時計~ルナ・ダイアル (by mican*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Flowering Night, and U.N.オーエンは彼女なのか? along with originals that mix in well to this gapless transition album in the same style as Haunted Dancehall!!!. I’m really excited about Syrufit’s ひもろぎ、むらさきにもえ arrange as well, and Nhato’s 幽霊楽団~Phantom Ensemble arrange sounds like it’ll be great too.

02.2 – 豚乙女 (Buta-Otome)’s 怨言神楽謌(えんげんかぐらうた)[*]

I need to go back to more Buta-Otome. I didn’t show enough love to their previous album, which was very experimental. This album just shows how much they’ve been improving over all. 孤独の哀願 feels like a throwback to the style that pervaded Homo Ludens (I’m going to stick to it and say that’s their best), and I’m really excited about what they’ve done to 廃獄ララバイ in ユラメイタ焔. 真っ黒の雪 contends for my favorite track. 空のある場所 seems to be there just to argue with the fact that I’ve started to get bored with ネイティブフェイス because their arrange completely remakes it. 貴方と私’s got a great beat to it, and it’s an arrangement of a song we hardly hear about. 冥き途 sounds like it’s absorbed some of its feeling from Sally, and 生きる is great – an arrangement of 夜のデンデラ野を逝く?!?; The last track デッドマンズ・ラブリイライフ (Deadman’s Lovely Life) is just cute, lyrics and all :3

05 – <echo>project’s “Mary had a little love” [*]

I’m sure you thought I was going to say Foreground Eclipse, or RD-Sounds, or Shibayan next, but no – and I’m surprised myself. I haven’t really paid attention to the echo Project, other than the fact I’ve translated a few songs released on their albums, but forget about that – this album is fantastic. There’s a little bias at work because it’s all Hifuu Club (Renko+Merry) arranges, but still. This album reminds me a little bit of Shibayan’s noise and non-noise stuff, reminds me a little bit of RD-Sounds – the intro even reminds me of Knights of the Round, some parts remind me of kz (livetune).. (is that what they’re going for with “echo”?). Anyway, the beat and the vocals are great – it’s jazzy and not afraid to transition in and out of smooth. My favorites have got to be 鉄塔, Door, Stray CS am3:00, 羊の塔, and drip+drop. I’m really looking forward to the lyrics.

05.1 – ぴずやの独房 (Pizuya’s Cell)’s Merciless Lazuli Rose [*]

The first 5 seconds and I’m already sold to be honest. This is another album in the style of Violet Lotus Requiem. Forgive me rockers, but I’m most excited about Invisibilia door. I’m hoping it’ll hold me over until Godwood (Pizuya’s Pianist, the strongest of them all XD) releases another piano album. Other than that, it’s hard to pick favorites. Every track is excellent. I’m excited about Plastic Mind (They must be reading mine!), and Losing your season, and Apparition lover, DESIREDRIVE, SUPER HOPPING VAMPIRE (I’ve always wanted to hear Merami sing this track), Merciless Lazuili Rose, Dizziness, Vitae perspiramur… alright let’s say Past distortion and we’ll have them all.

05.2 – Syrup Comfiture X Pizuya’s Cell’s “君の歌と僕の小さな恋” [*]

First of all, I’m probably going to be a little biased because I’m so excited. I mean, a collaboration between Syrup Comfiture (Syrufit) and Pizuya’s Cell!?!? (also C/ZYTOKINE). I don’t know how familiar you are with Pizuya you are, but he’s kind of like Shibayan. He releases his own albums from time to time, but he also does all the mixing and mastering for most of the metal/guitar groups out there (like CROW’SCLAW). Pizuya started out with MyonMyon releasing a series of Metal albums (Pizuya’s a bassist) with keyboard synths (Godwood), eventually added vocals (YAMAGEN), and MyonMyon broke off and Pizuya started experimenting with other types of music (pop, rock, screamo, etc.) Pizuya’s what got me into Touhou. What’s great is that we get to hear both Linjin and Godwood (Pizuya’s Pianist/my alltime favorite pianist) play in this album. Track 10, 星屑 -piano ballad- is actually Track 2, which Linjin plays, redone by Godwood. Another thing that’s great is that Pizuya apparently loves Alice’s PC-98 themes as much as I do.

Biased as I am, the tracks I’m looking forward to the most are: Felicitas (I’ve been absolutely in love with Yamagen’s acoustic guitar lately), 途切れた赤い糸, 不思議の国の… (pizuya’s arranges), and 星屑 -piano ballad- of course, but also シンパシー (Sympathy). I’ve never heard, never – ever – heard an arrangement of 真紅の少女 – Crimson Dead (Yuki’s Theme) before, so I’m really excited about that. It’s like her time has finally come! 霍雨 and 焦堕 (I love the beat) sound great as well. Visions of love and 星屑 (I can’t wait to hear when it breaks out into the main part of 天空の花の都) too. In other words, I love everything.

But really, シンパシー sounds beautiful, and overall with an unbiased opinion, this is the better of the Syrufit albums coming out this Comiket.

08 – 凋叶棕 (Diao ye zong)/RD-Sounds’ “綴” (Tsudzuri) [*]

You knew this was coming.

Although apparently only one of these songs have been made completely from scratch this time around, I only know for sure that three (ホンノタビビト, Demon Strundum, and 嘘と慟哭) are taken from other albums. However, RD’s said that he’s edited at least partially all but one track (which I’m guessing is 嘘と慟哭). First of all, it seems obvious to me (maybe I’m wrong o.o;) that ホンノタビビト has had 3L’s vocals re-recorded, because I have the other track, and 3L’s voice sounds a lot different. Demon Strundum feels as if it’s has clear meddlings with the instrumentals, so that only leaves 嘘と慟哭 but I may be wrong (I’ve only listened to 嘘と慟哭 on YT where subtleties are destroyed so…). Anyway, all the three I mentioned are already translated here, and they’re all great. I’m looking the most forward to マッドパーティ “Mad Party” which arranges Marisa’s Seihou theme (not a common pick for arrangers), その扉の向こうに, アイ・ウィッシュ・クロスフェード “I Wish Crossfade” and ヒカリ, but I’ve yet to find a song RD arranged that I didn’t like, and I have yet to find an album of his I didn’t love. If there’s any complaint I could possibly find is that I’d have loved to see an additional instrumental.

I can’t wait to see the lyrics to all of these songs.

08.1 – Shibayan’s “A procura de felicidade” [*]

This album’ll make up my want for instrumentals that’s a bit lacking in RD’s most recent album. This isn’t a noise album (if it were it’d probably be a the top) but I love 深水チエ (Fukamizu Chie) and was a little disappointed I didn’t get to hear her sing in the last album. Anyway this is a tiny album, and if you don’t like bossanova or have an irrational love of Fukamizu Chie there’s probably no reason to look at this, but if you will.

I’ll probably jump on the lyrics as soon as I can. Fukamizu Chie’s lyrics usually have wonderful quirky-ness to them that I love.

As a side note, it -would- be Shibayan who uploads his xfd as a lossless wave file.
We all could learn from this guy.

10 – 死際サテライト (Shinigiwa Satellite)’s FEAR EP [*] [*]

First I’m going to give a bit of background on this band, because I don’t think many of you have heard of them before. Their band name means “Satellite on the Edge of Death”, they’ve been around since C76, released a two-five track EP at most events since then, half of which are never released in doujin stores but are event only. They like to joke that they’re a “dummy circle” (a circle that goes secures a place at comiket primarily to get in the doors early to buy others’ circle’s stuff and releases either nothing, or “trash”) and play “analog” music (no digital effects or tampering) with all “Engrish” lyrics if any. Instead of releasing a crossfade like most circles, they release one of their songs early. (Second Link). I love ’em.

From the HP for FEAR EP:

“Is there any other group that exists with such purely impure motives?”
“I really think they’re the pinnacle of a new age of dummy circles.”
“I hear there are actually people who illegally download their stuff overseas.”

“When I listened to Shinigiwa Satellite, my dog ran away.”
“Shinigiwa? Isn’t that the name of that faux circle?”
“Shinigiwa…? Ah… aren’t they a circle that does only Ano Hana Yukiatsu stuff?”
“Because this circle was next door all our customers have left. I’m planning to sue.”
“Man their CDs are cheap. Not that I’m buying any.”
“Garururururururuuuuuuuuu!” (Dog growling)
“Shinigiwa! Ahaha, it’s like they’re popular for their virginity Tahahaha!”
“I think the best way to describe them is, I’m sorry they exist.”
“Man, I’m always looking forward to their album art! Huh, you mean they’re a music circle?”

I’m immensely looking forward to the chance to find more of their stuff. If anyone’s in Tokyo and going to Comiket I’ll send you money to buy whatever they’ve got.

I’m glad Sei-eitarou is singing again: 焦燥ジェノサイド “Shousou Genocide” “Impatient Genocide” is great. :3

11 – 魂温泉(TAMAONSEN)’s “Innocent Days” [*]

First of all, I love these guys for subbing their xfd, that itself deserves praise. It looks like Ranko’s singing another duet with Tama, しかたないじゃない (inst. by Comp) and it’s a Bad Apple!! arrangement to top it all off! But Eye-Splice has got to be the one I’m looking forward to the most. ytr+Tama’s always been amazing (Do I have to remind you of 狂気に満ちた不可視の珠 [*])? – and to be honest even more than しかたないじゃない I’m looking forward to ハルケロジック that song sounds awesome. I’m usually on and off about ill.bell, but this is good. So my favorites are: Eye-Splice, ハルケロジック (it’s a clever title actually), and しかたないじゃない. I’m also looking forward to reading PARFECT MIC REEEEEEEEELAY!! but if any of you ask me to translate it I figure I’ll die on the spot… If have anything to be disappointed about it’s the fact that Romonosov? doesn’t have a track (apart from PARFECT MIC).

12 – Draw The Emotional’s “Ghost and your heart” [*] [xfd

Sounding great! I’m looking most forward to “Keep away from me”, “Betrayal can’t invent anything”, and “We can’t get out of here forever”. I don’t have much else to say – it’s such a short xfd that there’s not much to pick out – but go ahead and listen to it! (link above). I’m looking forward to translating the lyrics.

13 – Hatsunetsu Miko’s’ “Re:Clockwiser & A Narcissus” [*]

Forgive me, because I tend to like Hatsunetsu Miko’s Re:* albums better than their others. Plus there’s a remix of Vagrant! (one of my unexpected favorites of C80) and also of Surface Star. It’s made me take another look at Nothing but Flowers (where most of the remixes come from), and I’m really liking all three of the new tracks (Silent Story, Rendezvous, and Pages of a Star). I’ll probably like the original Vagrant a lot better, but most of the other remixes are from already heavy-electro tracks so, I might like these remixes more. Anyway, excuse me while I listen to Vagrant again.

14 – FELT’s Silver Drive [*]

FELT always knows how to start off powerful don’t they? That’s got to be their specialty… Every track with 美歌 (Mika) is spectacular (I love her), but if I have to pick one that outshines the rest, it’s “After rain” FELT’s original. “Light My Life” sounds great too (vivienne’s growing on me) and I really like how “In The End” is sounding. If I have to pick favorites, they’d be “After rain”, “Under cloud”, “Light My Life”, “Runaway Drive”, and “In The End”. Galaxy and 506 really make this stand out, but the whole album is a little more techno-filled than usual, but I don’t mind it – I think it works.

15 – Foreground Eclipse’s “Each and Every Word Leaves Me Here Alone” [*]

First of all I’m extremely excited about the chance to see the lyrics for “Destruction” and “You’ll Forget That Even If You Noticed That”. That aside, I was really hoping to see another original and at least one Ten Desires arrange, and expected FG’s old Kogasa arrange to pop up. All my expectations were fulfilled XD (except that instead of an old Kogasa arrange we’ve got a new one that sounds even better!!) Since the crossfade is so short it’s hard to hear what FG’s done with Desire Drive, but I’m thinking it’ll be good. I really like the sound of their new original “If You Feel Like Sinking Down”, and more than hearing it, I’m curious to see the lyrics to FG’s “you” tribute “Noble”. But if I’m going to be brutally honest, I think that this album overall isn’t going to be as good as “Tears will Become Melodies Tonight”, but with just the tracks from the demos alone (Destruction, I Bet You’ll Forget That Even If You Noticed That, Things What Fowls Can’t See Confuse Us, and Escapes) it’s already a lot stronger than most in its genre.

16 – Syrufit’s “Avidya” [*]

First of all it’s Zounose who’s doing the album artwork!!!! I love that guy!!! Anyway, this is a pretty solid album. It’s not blowing me away as some Syrufit xfds have done in the past, but it’s good. It’s got a good range in style, from etc Cetera which is pure Cytokine (or Zytokine?), Links which sounds a lot like older Syrufit music, candle which sounds more like his new stuff, and Stellar which is “Poplica*” through and through. My favorites are We Are (love it), Stellar (awesome), and Another Vision (that breathing’s pretty sexy.) All of the arrangements are subtle about what they’re taking from, which I always think is good. I like piecing out the music.

17 – Arte-Refact’s Fantastic Park [<a href=";]

“If there were an Amusement Park in Gensoukyou, which attraction would you go to?”

I like 君の美術館, Tsukasa, SYNC.ART’S, C-CLAYS, K2, and dBu music alright, and the combination of them all’s actually turned out sounding pretty interesting. Every track sounds unique side-by-side, and nothing’s dull. Lately the problem I’ve had with C-CLAYS and K2 is that I’ll like at most 3, maybe 4 songs on any of their albums. As for my tastes in music specifically, it does a sort of bell curve with the best songs I think from Track 03 to Track 08 with “The Scary Mansion” and “ドキドキ☆マジカルパーク” (Hey, I like my loli-tastic tracks too!) my very favorite. This is where I snap my fingers in frustration though, I would have loved if the 車椅子の未来宇宙 arrangement was done differently, because I love that original.

18 – Girl’s short hair “幻想世界” [*]

I like yonji, he seems like a cool guy (and how am I making this judgment? ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌)

Favorites: “そのメイド、凶暴につき”, “裸足のヒロイン”, “流星スピード”, but everything is great – simple as that. I feel like I could listen to this album on loop for ages. It’s simple, not really anything different from what we’re used to, but it’s good.

19 – EastNewSound’s “Uncanny Instinct” [*]

Honestly, I feel like this album is a gamble. EastNewSound has been starting to fall in my favor lately: Solitude Blossom was a particular let down and I only really liked two tracks on Definite Energy (Miniature Garden and Fantastic Sequence)… they really peaked at Felsic Mirage… which is -way- better than this *nod* *nod* *nod*. But enough with all that negative. Let’s look at what this album is doing. ENS subtitled Uncanny Instinct “The First New Generation”, and I figure they mean to continue making originals if this particular album succeeds. I really hope so. We’ve seen good things from arrangers that decide to branch out – either completely warping the original (like only using the back beat – Masayoshi Minoshima has done this) or throwing originals on their Touhou albums (Masayoshi Minoshima has also done this), but it’s rare to see someone put out a full original album without testing the waters first.

My first impressions aren’t spectacular and I’m going to hit the negatives before the positives, but first of all I’m going to say that this album is looking much better than ENS’s Touhou arrange is. Dione Aggregation clearly lags behind the other two Aggregations, but I’m going to assume that’s because they were throwing more into this. Here we go. First of all I’m going to say that I love the lyrics to フタリゴト (the song that they’ve pre-released in full) and I think that its title is ridiculously clever – but. I don’t really like the music that goes with it *facepalm*. The positive that I take out of フタリゴト is that ENS’s lyricists don’t have to depend on Touhou themes to write wonderful lyrics, the negative is whether they can match the complexity of Touhou originals with their original/base. Especially with electronic music, what separates the good from the bad is often the underlying form.

Now for the good stuff, I’m sure you’re wondering why this album is so high up despite the fact that I have so much bad to say about it so far? Well, I enjoy most of the songs (though a few feel generic), and about half of the songs I think pull back to the roots of the older more, experimental ENS-style which is what I like. My favorites are 鋼の岩壁 (has the most interesting melody), 変わらぬ世界で (maybe it’s a little “foggy” but I love Chata’s whisperings), and モノクローム (good because it’s smooth and got an interesting beat). Original Remind and ヒカリの中で are good, but… I think they’re setting themselves up to be easily forgotten, because there’s nothing about them that stand out. To be honest, my main problem with フタリゴト is that it’s way too repetitive. It’s rather experimental itself, but yeah. It’s also a bit frustrating to me, just because フタリゴト supposed to be the strongest track on the album, and I don’t like it.

Anyway, I’m hoping the full album proves some of my negative points wrong.

20 – Sound Online’s A Couple of Time [*]

I’ve been an on and off fan of Tsukasa (ie. Sound Online) – He’s got the same smooth sound as ever and it sounds like this’ll be a solid album. 奈落の星 “Hell’s Star” peaked my interest. I’d go so far as to say that this album is good as Nostalgia. The remixes at the end spice the whole album up a little bit (I like Tatsh :3) and keep it balanced.

21 – LiLA’c Records’ “M4D Essence” [*]

Above its peers. I really like the beat and all of the tracks. If you’re starting to get disappointed in ENS and you like something that’s a little bit rougher (it floats closer to REDALiCE range), I definitely recommend you take a look at LiLA’c records. After all, Irus (arranger) and 海兎 (lyricist) do a lot for ENS, so you’ll see some similarities. My favorite tracks are probably: B:delusion, MONOCHROME SKY, Ephemeral, and Heart 2 Heart.

22 – Halozy’s Tonic Triangle [*]

Here we have another ENS “component” (or rather, constant contributor). I hate to say it, but this is a little too energetic for my tastes. There’s no doubt it’s a great, solid album, but for being too energetic I’ll slip it right under Helius. I’m not going to lie though, I kind of love (I mean, really love/I mean really, really love) 物凄いあややがぶっちゃけ物凄いうた (maybe I just have something for loli-Aya). 路側帯レアリスム is pretty good too. Alright SAKURA:Sound, and 錯錯乱乱 are good too, and 49-7 has a pretty damn cool sound. Ok… Ok…, I’ll slip it over Thalia. Favorites: 物凄いあややがぶっちゃけ物凄いうた, 49-7 (damn awesome), SAKURA:Sound, 錯錯乱乱.. Basically the first half of the album is just a little too energetic, but the second half calms down a bit and is pretty awesome.

22.1 – Halozy’s TOHO Cyber Trance [*]

First 5 seconds and I already love it – all of the tracks are beautifully tranced out. In other words, this is a perfect addition to any Touhou trance you’ve got. I’m really happy about the Brilliant Colors remix, Spacegirl and Withered Symphonic are both Chen-tastic, Strawberry Game!! (which we only get a few seconds of XD), Harmony of Desire (also a few seconds), but really more than all of that: ENG Dream. Why, because it’s an remix from the last ENS album I loved. T^T

24 – Conagusuri’s “Thalia Aggregation” [*]

I just recently came across Conagusuri (though I’ve listened to their “components” and guest tracks before) and re:uni-BIRTH is translated already :3. Overall, out of all the Aggregations I think this is the best. Though this may be in part due to the insertion of re:uni-BIRTH and MiYAMO’s remix of 桜∞friendship (from Conagusuri’s antiphona) which are great, I like all of the new tracks too. My favorite tracks are 輪廻托生 (it’s a very interesting arrange), THE SEED OF SUN (I think we need an energetic arrange of Desire Drive), Starry Heavens (I think it pulls the melody off pretty well), 亡聖ノ音 (this one’s really an ENS one and might be a little too mellow, but it’s good).

25 – Ameteras Records’ “Helius Aggregation” [*]

Listen to キミという特異点. Just listen to it. Now. This song’s probably the best track by far out of all of the Aggregations, and by far the best track on this album. Justice Ruler is probably the second best (from ENS – maybe this is why Dione isn’t as good – the best ENS tracks are on the other albums -.-;), and I liked the sound of 暴露衝動 and Closed to You, but the rest feels like a little bit of a step down from Thalia. In other words, if there were more songs like Justice Ruler and キミという特異点 this album would be a lot higher on the list.

26 – Includeore 俺++’s “Wisdom” [*]

I’m not going to lie, I’m actually really kinda liking this album. It’s very clear and direct. I kind of want to say simple, but it’s not really simple. It sounds kind of like older Alice’s Emotion albums, but cleaner and lighter. I kind of miss that sound, so maybe I’m just being a little nostalgic, but this is a pretty good Ten Desires full arrange album. My favorites are probably 幽興夜行 (really good instrumental actualy, I love the bells), 夢に咲く花, 天鼓舞踊, and 呼子鳥の戯れ.

27 – ARM’s “Infinity” [*]

So this is the second Bloom of sorts. However, rather than super remixing like Bloom, Infinity is modelled after Super Famicom (SNES) music. So right off the bat my impression is “not nearly as awesome as Bloom”. However especially if you like 16-bit music or whatever SNES is it perfectly fits the bill, sounds just like it, and all the arrangements are done well. It’s definitely something to take a look at. I’m not going to list my favorites, because since this is a complete 17 track arrangement of Ten Desires, whatever your favorite track on that is sure to be your favorite here. … … Reanimated Trickster is good.

28 – ALiCE’S EMOTION’s “Ghost Region” [*]

While this album isn’t amazing, it’s pretty solid. It’s about the same level as the number of albums we’ve had before it, so if you didn’t like those, you won’t like this, but there’s a couple of good tracks here. My favorites are “Believe it”, “illumina”, “imagery”, “Trip on me”, “Blooming”, and “Boom Boom Taoismic”.

29 – ILL’s (LiLA’c Records’) “Imitation Larval Love” [*] [*]

This album would be better I think if the vocals didn’t drown so much in the instrumentals (maybe if they were only a little bit stronger…), but this sort of falls into the Hardcore category (it’s rougher than M4D Essence), so I guess it was inevitable. It’s up beat, it’s interesting, and I’m looking forward to it. DECAYED LOVE and Bloody Cake are probably my favorites.

30 – EastNewSound’s “Dione Aggregation” [*]

時の檻 is my personal favorite and Loop Vision isn’t bad. I actually didn’t really like 星霜輪廻~Repeat~ (the PV song) that much to be honest. Star Light just makes me sad that there’s no more Izumin – and I won’t count 桜∞friendship this time (especially because it kind of clashes with the rest of the album). Again, I have high expectations for ENS, and well this album probably isn’t bad, but almost all I see is it failing put up a fight against any of the previous ENS albums from their beginnings up to Felsic Mirage. Maybe the full tracks will change my judgement. I hope so.

Honorable Mention:

・Hardcore Tano*c (t+pazolite)’s Songs for X Girls []

Not actually C81, so not on the list. If you like t+pazolite even a fraction of the amount I do, this’ll be at the top of your list. This is great. It has tsugihagi Construction 2012, and to Luv me, I *** for u. (reprise) which I’m sure you’ll recognize, but I’m most excited about Distorted Lovesong (Full length). Rizna! I love Howling Down as well, but everything, including the remixes is quality. Anyway – listen to this if you like Hardcore.

・Hardcore Tano*c’s Bright Colors []

Not actually C81, so not on the list. If you like Hardcore Tano*c even a fraction of the amount I do, this’ll be at the top of your list. Squash!, So Sweet Bitter Days, smiley*smiley, and Randomize to Euphoria are looking to be some of my favorites, but everything’s great. Anyway – listen to this if you like Hardcore.

・衝動的’s Best Position []

This is the guy that sings Vagrant. I’m kind of lukewarm about this album, but I definitely liked wkmk.

Anyway, listen to キミという特異点. That song is beautiful. I know the album it’s on is low on the list, but damn. Forget about that and listen to this song. It’s wonderful.

Haven’t got to yet:

Confirmed, Waiting on XFDs:

Anticipating C80

^Are You Ready For This!?

[Day 2 of C80 is over, so I’ll probably do an after post once stuff comes out]

Since this is at best a review of cross-fades, I can only review so well, and a lot of the time after the event I’ll change my mind a lot, but here are my first impressions.

First of all the star of C80 is definitely Merami.

Foreground Eclipse is not coming to C80, but Merami’s been really busy in other groups making the touhou music flow better than ever before.

Here’s what I’m anticipating in order of most anticipated:

(to prevent an high-ranked album flood [all of 遙 -Haruka- would be on the list], I’m limiting 3 songs per album, and one extra for each of the top 2)::

01 “Worldly Flower” from ぴずや独房 (Pizuya’s Cell)’s “Rising Star”
— I literally could not stop listening to this song. It’s Merami at her best fast-paced rhythmic singing, paired with Pizuya and his amazing pianist Godwood. On top of that that Yuuka’s theme? It’s a shame the preview is so short, I just know this song will be to die for.
02 “Min -眠-” from Sally’s “Sally”
— So damn. I was hopping around links and hit THIS. I’m a sucker for whisper singing, and when you’ve got hard electric guitar instrumentals like this with Chata? And Kasodani Kyouko’s theme!? Everything’s just falling into place for me this Comiket isn’t it?
03 “盲目の笑顔” from 凋叶棕 (RD-Sounds)’s 遙 -Haruka-
— I love RD and Merami. His albums have been getting better and better, his instrumentals and lyrics are superb, and Merami fills that hole in my heart that Foreground Eclipse has been straining because of their release schedule (I’m grateful they were able to get us a demo). Anyway, I’ve always loved Satori’s theme and this just fits. It pairs very well with NeGa/PoSi but I feel more potential for this song with its Gothic tones.
04 “P:rhythm Players.” from Poplica*’s “love”
— Poplica*’s been catching my attention lately. Up until recently I’ve thought of him as sort of Syrufit’s lackey or something, but but his style has diverged or at least I’ve noticed that it was different to begin with. I love this song because it sort of shows a stretch away from Poplica*’s normal smooth sound into noise, somehow without losing any of that smoothness, and if you’ve seen my fangirl-ish rants about how awesome Shibayan, you know how much I like noise.
05 “NeGa/PoSi*ラブ/コール” from 凋叶棕 (RD-Sounds)’s 遙 -Haruka-
— I love RD’s energetic songs as much as I love his melancholic/emotional tear jerking songs. (夜は優しく舞い降りて almost ALWAYS makes me cry.) The sound in this song reminds me of “A Secret Adventure” – I can’t wait to look at the lyrics, sing along, translate – all of that. As we’ve seen from Taiji no Yume, Koishi is a pandora’s box of material for a skilled lyricist.
06 “over.” from Syrufit’s “over”
— I hope to death that this isn’t just a short intro piece. It’s noisy, got a ridiculously awesome beat and warp sound. It’s something Shibayan might turn into a 10 minute song XD. This makes me want to dance. I’m dancing now. Yeah. I’m probably going to break something. I should stop. Now.
07 “Out of Control” from Sally’s “Sally”
— First of all I love songs that arrange from “unlikely” tracks, like credits or high score or to a very simple intro theme. Well it works. Perfectly, it’s got that Sally sound (I really hope this group becomes a hit or a thing or something) and Merami. Really, my wishes are being granted having this much Merami all over the place. <3
08 “High jump love” from Syrufit’s “over”
— I like Syrufit’s more energetic songs, mainly because I like energetic songs, but Syrufit’s energetic songs are something else. When I listen to Syrufit I feel like I’m underwater. That’s just his sound. Maybe it’s all the base, but something like that is usually suited for deep trance, when you make that energetic instead it’s more unique, and more Syrufit. And who doesn’t love Ayakura Mei?
09 “暗夜航路” from Buta-Otome’s “オリエンタル夢紀行”
— I’m sure you’re wondering why it took me this long to get to Buta-Otome? Their albums tend to be more balanced, so I run into “All their songs are amazing!” and I suppose I’m a bit more used to their sound, so they’re less likely now to shock me into saying THIS IS IT, THIS IS EXACTLY IT, THIS IS ALL I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR. etc. Anyway. I put 暗夜航路 up first because it’s an arrangement of an original theme I really like that’s rarely made song material and I really like the smoothness of it. Buta-Otome can be like this too, emanating beauty rather than dancing it. Every member of Buta-Otome’s got talent to do both well.
10 “MIRROR” from Sally’s “Sally”
— RIGID PARADISE AND RANKO WITH GUITAR POWER!!!! Need I say more? It’s got funk, warp, strange tones tempos and loves, tied by a strong chorus melody. This is what Ranko’s good at.
11 “ささぐうた -ヒガン・ルトゥール・シンフォニ” from 凋叶棕 (RD-Sounds)’s 遙 -Haruka-
— Merami can do a sort of “emotional strain” in her voice well that makes some notes really feel like she’s crying them out. That sound carries over well in this song and I like the original Komachi’s theme as well. RD-Sounds forever!
12 “宵影” from Buta-Otome’s “オリエンタル夢紀行”
— Whenever I hear a Heian Alien arrangement I always have to compare it to Kimi no Museum’s version. Arrangements of Heian Alien have to be powerful, active, crazy and have a strong beat that makes you imagine the vocalist moving all about the stage while singing. Maybe I still have to hand it to Kimi no Bi, but well this is great too.
13 “So.La.Seed” from Cutie and Headshaking Sounds (C.H.S)’s “Sample Junk”
— I think I jumped up and shouted “THIS IS ELECTRO-LOLI!!!!” when I first heard this on the crossfade. I eat this up. I love it. Erratic is what I live off of, so whenever t+pazolite and Rizna get together I cross my fingers, will it be the perfect Electro-Loli I’m looking for, or will it fall short? This isn’t falling short. Not at all. Maybe it’s her voice, maybe it’s the fact that she sang one of Suwako’s themes with perfect electro-loli goodness, but I can’t dissociate Rizuna from Suwako in my mind anymore. This is Suwako singing. XD
14 “Prayer Blue” from FELT’s “Blue Drop”
— I really, Really, REALLY like FELT. They give off a sort of nostalgic feel to me, and above being just graceful, they’re powerful, and FELT’s singers can really belt it out. Because a lot of FELT sounds pretty much the same to me, the energy behind each song is the most important aspect. If that vocalist’s giving it all she’s got then the song will feel like it’s bursting with emotion, and it will be amazing. This song bursts.
15 “恋死に” from Buta-Otome’s “オリエンタル夢紀行”
— I really love Last Remote. Maybe a little too much. I think inside I’ve always wanted them to do a Last Remote song, and well this song’s granting my wish. How can I not love it?
16 “桜影彩艶” from EastNewSound’s “Solitude Blossom”
— EastNewSound’s been disappointing me lately. Well only kind of. They aren’t disappointing me. They’re just not blowing me away. EastNewSound occupies a lot of my “most favorite songs ever” slots. So I keep on expecting them to do it again. The entire album is beautiful, but the my focus this time around are Kirin’s arrangements. All of them go just a little bit further. This song I feel is the core of the album, so it’s the highest of the album on the list.
17 “伝説のユグドラシル” from 凋叶棕 (RD-Sounds)’s “遙 -Haruka-“
— All of RD-Sounds instrumentals on this album are great, and really I could have put this or 弦奏交響曲「ポイズンボディ」 and been perfectly happy with the placement on the list. I just felt I fancied this one a little bit more.
18 “Remind” from Sally’s “Sally”
— The outro piece for “Sally” more whispering tones from Chata and a smooth sound overall. Muted electric guitars can do wonders sometimes too. The lingering notes really caught my ear, which is why it’s my fourth “top” selection for “Sally”
19 “Lover” from Buta-Otome’s “Sadistic Brownie”
— This feels like Liz-Triangle meets Kishida Kyoudan and I like it. It feels like it embodies the title “Sadistic Brownie” more than any of the other tracks. XD
20 “ひとしずく” from EastNewSound’s “Solitude Blossom”
— Tsubaki usually either clashes with a song or melts into it making it 20x better. This is a Tsubaki melt (no not a sandwich). It usually takes a lot to get me to like the Imperishable Night Final Stage/Boss themes. I mean really – I don’t know, maybe I have a grudge against them Kaguya and Eirin. When there’s such an arrangement and I take to the song it’s because of things like Tsubaki melting and spurring the song past its potential. XD
21 “It’s your world in Scarlet” from Syrufit’s “over”
— I think this song would be a lot higher on the list if the crossfade hadn’t cut the song off at the moment it was gaining energy. I don’t feel cheated or anything, but now I’m anxious because I know the song has a lot of potential, but I don’t know what Syrufit/Poplica* did with hardly any of that potential.
22 “ヒカリマツリ” from EastNewSound’s “Solitude Blossom”
— I love this song I don’t really know exactly why. I just know I’m going to love it. Hotaru’s clear bell-like voice and the fragments of the lyrics I liked just sort of grab me.
23 “Vagrant” from 発熱巫女~ず (HatsunetsuMikoz) “Nothing But Flowers”
— I’ve been missing some male vocal love. I don’t know if HatsunetsuMikoz have used any male vocals before, but the first thing I thought was Damn this is totally HatsuNetsuMikoz! followed a realization that I loved it.
24 “escalate” from 豚乙女 (Buta-Otome)’s “Sadistic Brownie”
— When you start hitting Comp’s arrangements in Sadistic Brownie it blows you away. Why? Because Comp is amazing. In fact, he may be too good. In most of the songs I feel like the vocalists either aren’t keeping up with him or aren’t putting in enough energy, but this song in particular with Kairo’s 556t and ハナビ雨季 I think they might just be pulling it off… barely. I’ll have to listen to the whole song, I’m hoping for it. I really love partial ツェペシュの幼き末裔 (Descendant of Tepes) arrangements, and it’s paired with 月時計~ルナ・ダイアル (Luna Dial) too! I hope it’s good. It’s so hard to tell with such a short clip…
25 “Twisted Twit” from Cutie and Headshaking Sounds (C.H.S)’s “Sample Junk”
— Had to tack on some t+pazolite instrumentals. Very nice. Fairy Dust.

Albums (Highest on the List get Album Covers):

01 – 凋叶棕 (RD-Sounds)’s “遙 -Haruka-” [*]

— This album is a perfect addition to RD-Sound’s repertoire, there’s not a single track I don’t love, and I’m very eager to explore RD’s lyrics because there are always one or two songs per album that absolutely wow me. RD’s instrumentals are great on their own, but then you add Merami, one of my favorite vocalists into the mix… there really is no better match. My original notes on this album are filled with exclamation marks like YES!!! and KITA!!!!! etc. If you don’t know RD-Sound’s/凋叶棕 yet, you should. I’ve got lyrics for several of their songs, including 月光照らすはシリアルキラー which is being adapted into a doujinshi light novel of sorts by second-lib: [link]. My favorite tracks, when forced to pick, are NeGa/PoSi*ラブ/コール, 盲目の笑顔, ささぐうた -ヒガン・ルトゥール・シンフォニー, 弦奏交響曲「ポイズンボディ」… ok, all of the tracks really.

02 – Sally’s “Sally” [*]

— New Group!!! Chata. Ranko. Merami. F*** YES. AND a Full Touhou Shinreibyou Ten Desires Vocal Arrangement. Like I said earlier I sort of stumbled upon this, and I was immediately drawn in. I don’t know any of the arrangers if they’re from other groups, but they have a really strong sound. The only tracks I didn’t absolutely love were the ones IZNA took vocals for. I don’t know if it’s her, or I just happened not to like those two songs as much (again we’re talking in fine degrees of greatness, both her songs are still better than most songs this Comiket). With “plaza desperado” in a rare turn, I think it actually would have sounded better if Ranko wasn’t singing the vocals. The instrumentals are amazing, but Ranko’s voice doesn’t match quite as well as it might. Katakiri Rekka or Ritsuka, might have matched the song better… but this is only me wondering, the song is still excellent. My favorites are Min -眠い-, Out of Control, and Mirror (Chata, Merami, Ranko) :3 // I really hope this group sticks around.

03 – 豚乙女 (Buta-Otome)’s “オリエンタル夢紀行” [*]

— Buta-Otome just works. It’s very rare to have them fall out of my top three anticipated for any given event (though I’ll have to admit “Rising Star” was giving them a bit of a run for their money…), and that’s because they’re a solid group. Every member contributes well to the spirit of the group: No one else but Ranko can really keep up with Comp’s arrangements or work with them so well. Paprika’s piano might lose to Godwood’s if you set them side by side, but Paprika’s got the whole “Piano-Man” thing down and I don’t think anyone could ever come close to replacing him. Ranko no Ane’s art really pulls the group together too, and even when she isn’t writing lyrics for the group… well anyone who’s seen her in that bunny suit knows what she does for their live performances :3 I don’t know if I’ll like this album as much as my favorite three (幻想ホモ・ルーデンス, 縁, and ロングスカートパノラマガール) – but I’ll wait for the whole album for that judgment. My favorite songs are 宵影, 暗夜航路, 恋死に, and 星の向こうに

04 – ぴずや独房 (Pizuya’s Cell)’s “Rising Star” [*]

— Worldly Flower. Worldly Flower. I’ve been listening to that short clip again and again and again and again so much that I’m addicted. Merami+Pizuya+Godwood = magic. 3L’s tracks on this album are sweet too, but Worldly Flower blows everything out of the water. マクロフィラパラソル is definitely my second favorite, but since there are only four tracks released, I don’t know for sure. I got to listen to how well Pizuya and 灯油 (KEROSENE) mesh in his Kerosene only album that’s coming out (which I’ll talk about later), so I’m anxious to see how those tracks will work.

05 – Poplica*’s “love” [*]

— We might be losing to Love=ALL here, but if I have to even consider “maybe” that’s already told you how much I love Syrup Comfiture’s new pair of albums. First of all: P:rhythm Players. – YES. But let’s talk about Poplica*. I like Poplica* he’s got his own kind of smooth sound down without going as far down that path as Tsukasa (who may have gone too far). He can pull off something like P:rhythm Players that still sounds smooth with two vocals and yet still rough enough to grab my special tastes – he’s taken an original track that’s probably been worn out from over-arrangement and still make it brand new (like how Shibayan did to Necrofantasia with アモリタチテカミトミユ on Where is Love). My favorite tracks are P:rhythm Players., Ten Desires., Hanamatsuri., and Nowhere Residents. (Syrufit), but the entire album plays very well.

06 – Syrufit’s “over” [*]

— over. I haven’t felt as psyched from an instrumental intro/lead-in track … ever? I really, really hope it’s a full song, because I can’t get enough of the beat. It makes me want to dance, it’s noisy, very Satori, and just… well I won’t rant about it again. I’ve already done that. This album has got a very Syrufit sound to it and plays fairly well all the way through. (I think there’s a bit of a minor dip around “errrrrr”.) That underwater feeling of his permeates the album, and I’d say his poppy stuff has been polished a lot more sense his earlier albums. He’s got it right this time. My favorite tracks are: over., High jump love, it’s your world in scarlet, Stray child’s Alice (Poplica*), and 月影少女.

07 – Alice’s Emotion’s “Radiata” [*]

— Very solid, and the instrumental tracks and “techno solos” especially grab me. Calling Melody, Brilliant Bass, Dark in Motion, Supreme Star Rising (it HAS TO CUT at the GOOD part DOESN’T IT!!), and Singing in the Rain are my favorite tracks, but everything I haven’t mentioned is promising, and the remix of Stygian is great too. The altered melodies in 君想フ故ニ我亡シ are amazing as well. I’m really looking forward to this album about the same as the above two. There’s this insane nostalgia factor I’m getting from alot of the techno tones as well, so… Ironically, I think REDALiCE is less experimental than Syrufit/Poplica* this time around… I suppose it doesn’t need to be said, but 破月 will never hold a candle to Saigetsu.

08 – Alstroemeria Records’ “Haunted Dancehall” [*]

— You had me from hello. (Masayoshi Minoshima’s always got a way with his intros goddamn him.) I absolutely love “only in the morning upside down after moonlight”, “your smile, your face, your lies, your love”, “Witching Dream” and “Ancient”. The entire album is great. The rap J-core track will await my further judgement when I hear the whole thing (for instance “Retropolitans” is one of my favorite tracks, and it’s similar). Also I’d really like to hear mican*’s track, but that somehow didn’t make it into the xfd. D: I can’t wait for this album. I’m only slipping this below love/over. because I am slightly less excited about the my favorite track here “only in the morning upside down after moonlight” than those above.

09 – 少女病’s “聖骸メロフォビア -Seigai Melophobia-” [*]

— An original album from a group that has RD arranging. It’s one of those albums that tells a story, with narration and very powerful orchestral instrumentals, a chorus, and powerful vocals to match. We’ve only got two tracks in the crossfade, and both of them blew me away. (unfortunately the quality of the xfd makes everything crackle a bit, but we all know about lossless music right?) Melophobia means fear of music. Oh rusty red….

10 – FELT’s “Blue Drop” [*]

— Another strong album from FELT. Every song on this album is beautiful, and it has unity and level quality throughout that few other groups can match. Without a doubt, “Prayer Blue” has the most energy. I really liked “The Highly Sensitive” and “One More Time” as well. “And Other” didn’t disappoint either. FELT knows how to wrap up an album well. I don’t know what it is about FELT, but they make me extremely reminiscent of where I used to live. Anyway excellent. If you love FELT’s sound, here’s another great addition.

11 – EastNewSound’s “Solitude Blossom” [*]

— Maybe I’ve been a little harsh of EastNewSound lately, but I miss Izumin. Nayuta’s been slightly less of a ghost, but those two and 黒鳥 are the ones who started the group… right? What you have to look for in this album are the songs arranged by きりん (Kirin). He stands apart from the group this time around I think. ヒカリマツリ, 桜影彩艶, and ひとしずく are my favorites. I liked Replay and 花弁~雫~ too, but Crescent Night almost hurt me. The vocalist クボタン isn’t bad, but … it really should be Izumin singing. It needs to be Izumin T^T. Anyway, this is a great album, and whenever the full album comes out I’ll inevitably rate it higher (short clips can almost never give ENS songs justice), but I can’t help but feel that ENS isn’t evolving enough or something, or maybe it’s trying to evolve but left some of its most important elements behind.

12 – 豚乙女 (Buta-Otome)’s “Sadistic Brownie” [*]

— This is what I’d call an interesting experiment. It’s very good, very interesting overall, but it really did remind me just how well all the members of Buta-Otome go well together. “Lover” is great and it doesn’t have the the “maybe Ranko should be singing this” or “maybe Comp should be arranging this” problem because no Buta-Otome members are involved in that particular song XD. As soon as you get to the latter part of the album and Comp starts composing you realize two things. First “wow” I’m not sure I’ve realized how good this guy is. Second, “wow” I have respect for Ranko for being able to match this, I’m not sure anyone else can. I think “ecarlate”/”escalate” has promise (basically Kairo’s 556t and Hanabi Uki might match the energy of one Ranko) but I want to hear the whole song first. I liked mineko’s voice in 夢について as well.

13 – Cutie and Headshaking Sounds (C.H.S)’s “Sample Junk” [*]

— Tasty electro-loli. I really like t+pazolite. Him and Rizna make a great team, but I think their electro-loli is a bit of a victim of hit-and-miss which is why I usually have trouble rating an entire album really high, it’s usually just particular songs. Still I’d say there are lot more hits and misses this time. I absolutely love So.La.Seed, and Twisted Twit and Rigid Raver are great instrumentals. “Don’t Stop this!(Radio Edit)” and “Incomplete Cherry Girl” were pretty good I thought, but not to write home about. I was really excited when I heard t+pazolite was remixing a 豚乙女 song, but so far I’m a bit disappointed. It’s pretty much just a sped up version of 郷愁 with some effects. I don’t know about you, but I think a remix should NEVER make you want to listen to the original immediately. Maybe it should make you want to listen to the original, but it should never let you go. It should make you want to listen to the remix five times before you go back, at least.

14 – 発熱巫女~ず (HatsuNetsuMikoz)’s “Nothing but Flowers” [*]

— If anything, Hatsunetsu Mikoz have been becoming more and more like themselves. (I guess you’d say perfecting their sound) I think this album will be better than their previous two, but not quite on par with their best (Re:Starlights & An Umbrella). I don’t know if HNM have ever used male vocalists before, but “Vagrant” is perfect proof that it can work. I love the beat – and damn that “makes me want to dance”. I wanna go to the clubs HNM go to. Incidentally, the vocalist is one of the arrangers featured in Sadistic Brownie. I really like the tracks “Surface Star” and “Reflections” in addition to “Vagrant”.

15 – Celestian Clays (C-CLAYS) “無音 -Muon-” [*]

— Superb. Just superb. This is a 小峠舞 only album, and I love her, so I guess it was inevitable I’d love this album. Every track on the album is spectacular, and it’s hard to pick favorites, but I guess I’ll go with: ツインソウル~輪廻する旋律~, 猛る月の叙情歌。, 狂奔Matter, 猛る月の叙情歌。, 還る櫻と、闇夜と。, Storm… yeah… It’s kind of rare that I love every track on a C-CLAYS album, usually because they try to spread across so many genres, but whenever it’s all 小峠舞… Anyway, this is great. I kind of want to her to sing some epic Anime OPs or something – or maybe she’s too good for them?

16 – OTAKU-ELITE RECORDINGS’s “tohoREWORX Vol.1+2” [*]

— When I first listened to this, I didn’t like it too much, and but I felt that spark. So I listened to it again, and again. First of all this is a Remix Album. Secondly the first six tracks are tohoREWORX Vol.2, and the last 5 tracks are from the already printed tohoREWORX Vol.1. My favorite track is a grindy mix made the day of the deadline selected by the album artist Sakuma (I’ve used his works in posts before, he’s awesome): THE SHOTGUN JUSTICE (Sakuma’s Favorite Dub). After that my favorites run like this: And I love the world ~ キレそうな紫の幾年月 (Extended), ruby and aquamarine (Club Edit), From here to anywhere (CYTOKINE Remix). As you can see, Vol.2 is better than Vol.1 in my opinion, but well. Great remix album. I like OTAKU-ELITE. You can find a couple of their songs on my site XD.

17 – LiLA’c Records’ “Heavenly Beats” [*]

— Hahaha… Yeah… I like this one better than the Touhou arrange album. Now I’m no hardcore Angel Beats fan, but Brave Song(Heavenly Trance Mix), 一番の宝物(Low Trance Mix), are amazing and MY SOUL,YOUR BEATS(Heavenly Trance Mix) and メグメル(Euphoric Fantasia Mix) are pretty good as well. The rest isn’t bad, but it’s not spectacular or anything. There’s an extended mix for Brave Song too >:D

18 – Forest306×みかん箱×Foxtail-Grass Studio’s “navigation il mare” [*]

— Refreshing. First of all I’ve got to say that these guys really know how to do an intro and an outro. Even though I was just hearing clips, those clips did a perfect job of leading the rest of the album in and out. Anyway, this instrumental album is a very folksy sort of album, if you like that – give it a listen. My favorites were 水泡, 逃げ道の夜行鈴, アイスカフェラテ, and 小さな日傘と赤いスカーフ (always a sucker for Remilia). 間抜けな水上バス weirded me out a little bit, Romantic Children really does work better in a heavy techno/metal environment…

19 – 豚乙女 (Buta-Otome)’s “東方猫鍵盤3” [*]

— Paprika’s piano album. Paprika’s one of my favorite pianists and he’s really got that “Piano Man” vibe down. He does piano only arrangements of a lot of Buta-Otome songs and many of his own. A must listen for piano fans. A few extra effects look like they were added this time around.

20 – 魂音泉 (TAMAONSEN)’s “コモン・スカイ” (“Common Sky”) [*]

— I’m not particularly excited about any one song on this new album, but it sounds good. I’m really glad to see ytr and Romonosov:? back, but if I’m going to be perfectly honest with myself, I’m most excited about the Scarlet Velvet Karaoke track. I should get drunk and try to sing it. If I had to choose, my favorite song on the album is 儚.

21 – Celestian Clays (C-CLAYS) “CERCA -チェルカ-” [*]

— Another good solid album. (and a lot more 小峠舞) C-CLAYS actually has disappointed me a bit for the last two events, but I think this makes up for it. My favorites are: 黄泉少女, Summer2011, カコノトビラ, and Signal.

22 – Cytokine’s “Backflash Audibility” (Remix Album) [*]

— I’m not going to review this in depth, as it’s a remix album, but I liked the remixes a lot and I’d like to take another look at Cytokine. I’m kind of rediscovering him at the moment. His Reitaisai 8 album was amazing after all.

22 – Floating Cloud’s “祭” [*]

— Festival Music!! Instrumental Album. I actually really like this sound, it reminds me of Spice and Wolf. All the tracks flow together quite nicely and all of it is pleasantly calming.

23 – ぴずや独房 (Pizuya’s Cell)’s “井戸端GOSHIP” [*]

— Pizuya arrangement of Vocaloid-Launched original tracks with Kerosene for vocals. This is only low on the list because my favorite “ペテン師が笑う頃に” is already out on YouTube/NicoNico in full. [here]. I’m addicted. Maybe I’ve been missing out on Miku stuff recently, but if the best stuff is re-arranged (Matroyska and this) then maybe I can just wait XD.

24 – K2 Sound “Spark! -スパーク-” [*]

— I didn’t think as much of this one as the other two that will be released by C-CLAYS to be honest. It feels around the same level as the ones in the past that have been disappointing me. I did have three I liked quite a bit though: You Reply To Me! ~ Ambience Dist., COOL BEAUTY, and Fate Moment. Also, there’s a country song on this album O_o.

25 – LiLA’c Records’ “Naughty Eyes” [*]

— When I heard the first two tracks I got excited, but the album calmed down a bit after that :/ – that’s alright though because overall it’s still good. (And at the very end 「ただいま」を、「おかえり」を blew me away.) My favorite tracks are: ReMorning, 「ただいま」を、「おかえり」を, SENSED, and Finally Here.

— Actually I went back and looked at the album they released at RTS8 (R3D ANTHEM), and I like that one better; a lot better – so if you’re meh on this new one, check that out if you haven’t heard it :x

26 – Halozy’s “Aqua Trytone” [*]

— While I wouldn’t call the album weak, it was cutie without my headshaking sounds. So it didn’t really grab me. However, I did like 空飛ぶライカ (the final track) a lot.

27 – CROWS’CLAW “Just For My Heartache [EP]” [*]

— Originals from CROWS’CLAW. I’ll be sure to pick it up, but since it’s just a short EP (and not Touhou) I’m not as jumping up and down excited about it. I think it may do a good job of filling the gap made by Pizuya(xMyonMyon) not releasing another heavy rock/metal album.

28 – Forest Pierrot Records (FP Records)’s “Sing Summer Song” [*]

— Much better than usual, there’s just too much soft cute for me. 残り香 (by 豚乙女) is really good, and there are a few other nice tracks, but FP Records seems to be fated to stay near the bottom most of the time on my list. Every now and then they surprise me with something amazing, (like Florentia from Foreground Eclipse – hot damn was that track good), so I keep on checking, but nothing amazing this time. The first track (アイス売り場 de パーフェクトフリーズ) is pretty cute though; I like it.

29 – SYNC.ARTS’s “霊水夢双” [*]

— This is a “best” sort of compilation album across circles. My favorites are: Lunatic Blue, 喪失の雪夜, 音無き刻の中へ, and Leap in the Dark.

Requests Closed Until Further Notice

[Last Update: 2011/07/26]

As you may have heard, I have “class changed” from NEET to Freeter status and now have a temporary full-time (40+hrs/wk) position that has already warned me that overtime wouldn’t be unusual. I’m going to have even less time than before, especially because I’ll be focusing my free time more on the JLPT and the JLPP, writing exercises, and reading light novels.

Even before this I’ve been really busy with surgery, sleep problems, constant “get a job” nagging, and a whole lot of other things so naturally I’ve sort of let my requests list get away from me… basically it’s too long. When my request list gets long people end up waiting at least a month or more (unless they’re lucky) to get their translation and well, that’s just WAY TOO LONG in my opinion to be waiting for a song translation.

My overall list may be shorter than a lot of other song translators, but (even if it’s free) the wait feels like going to a coffee shop with a “free coffee” coupon and have it taken with a smile and told, we’ll have it ready soon – come back about this time next week. (ノ-_-)ノ ~┻━┻ // a shorter list means better turnaround times for all and less of a load on me.

For those people with their coffee coupon in hand at the coffee shop and find it past its expiration date, and think “ah, well screw it” and just go buy a coffee anyway, I’m going to introduce a way to pay for priority; more information below.

Anyway here’s the current state of affairs:
[#]. [Requester] – “[Song Name]” {Other Information}

01. Athena Glory/Makoto Sawatari – “此処に紡ぐ – Border of Life” 回路-kairo-
–Those Above Have Waited 2+ Months–
–Those Above Have Waited 1+ Months–
02. Zesan – “The Tower of The Blood” Unlucky Morpheus
–Those Above Have Waited 2+ Weeks–
03. Aghart (of many names) – “Puella☆serenus” (from 秋葉文化祭コンピレーションCD Vol.1)
04. Aghart (of many names) – “式と為る者” Unlucky Morpheus
05. Patchuu – “蓬菟”

*Overflows – I will not touch/look at these songs until their number falls to 20 or lower*

01. TasteTea – “the third hope” Cis-Trance (from ABNORMAL VOICE)
{NO LYRICS AVAILABLE} (Priority if transcribed lyrics found)
02. Revolution Saber – “月夜に舞う想い”
 {NO LYRICS AVAILABLE} (Priority if/when lyrics are acquired}

PLAN TO DO NEXT [Drafted]:

^As you may have noticed I don’t exactly approach the list in order, but I try to give preference to those that have been waiting for a while and those that requested one rather than multiples, but ultimately I’ll do a song more quickly if I recognize it and/or like it.

If you currently have a spot on the list, and would like to cancel a certain song and replace it with another, that’s fine, however – I won’t be taking any new ones until the list drops to below 10, and then I’ll make another announcement about it. If you really, really don’t want to wait because you’ve realized that this may take a while, I’ll start another short list (max limit: 3) for people that want to pay me for priority. What you would do is email me (kafka.fuura -AT- and I’ll check to make sure I can find lyrics for the song etc. Then you’d send me a paypal invoice for $5+ and I’ll try to get the song done within 24-48 hours. I will NOT accept the payment until right before I post, because I don’t think it’s fair to take someone’s money before I’m ready to exchange my “product”.

Now I’m not trying to be pretentious or make this site into a money making venture (it would not be the least bit profitable from my perspective time-wise), and I really don’t think charging money for a song translation is well, right because there are quite a few people out there that’ll do it for free, and only you can say I’m better than them. I’m just tacking on this option because I don’t like to outright deny people anything. If you REALLY REALLY want a translation, and you’re willing to pay a little for it, then by all means. ^_^

Just In Case You’ve Missed Me

^Yeah, I look like China right now. Black eye and everything.

I haven’t posted one of these useless posts in ages. Upon ages. But usually that’s a good thing, because I only tend to post update posts to explain away my absences, and I haven’t had to do that for a while.

For those who haven’t been keeping up with my twitter, (I don’t blame you – usually I just ramble). I had surgery a few days ago, where I had a growth near the roots of my upper front teeth removed, and am still recovering (hence the hiatus). I’m fine and all, but my face is about twice as big as it should be, I’ve got a black eye, and I get dizzy when I try to think (which puts a major damper on my usual activities). So I’m sort of half out of commission at the moment. (*´н`)゛

After that, I was going to say that everyone should help Extra Credits (a web show about video games that’s very well done and thought provoking) because their artist found out recently she’ll have to have surgery, but within hours donations have risen almost to past 200% of their original goal – so now I’ll just have to say go check out the show. [link-to-the-escapist] – I know this isn’t related to Japan or anything, but I wanted to share. ^_^

Back on track for Japan related things: For those interested in the learning Japanese language scene, I found this cool site sort of like Yahoo Answers but just for Japanese language related questions here: [link] I’ve been happily wasting my time answering questions there. >.>

I was inspired by 2ch’s summer rooms so I thought I’d post my own. Before and after – my available space shrunk considerably so Sanya’s my only figure out and about and I’ve kept her in her box. Only my two new figmas are really “out”. At least I have a real bookshelf now ^_^.

Before (Apartment in Austin):

Yes, that’s a ROAD CLOSED sign my roommate took in.

After (Half of a Home Office Room near DFW-Airport):

The real problem is that I don’t have enough space to write anymore. D:

If you’ve noticed the box, I just got Kuroi Mato (黒衣マト) yesterday! After lots of trouble at the post office, I was finally able to get her home. First figma I’ve ever ordered (though Cute beside her got delivered two days earlier). I’ll probably play around more with poses but I got them right before and right after my surgery day so I’ve been out. >.>

Woo~ Dizzy again. You know an odd side-effect of all of this after-surgery business is that when I listen to music and keep beat like I usually do, the blood rushes to my head and I immediately feel drunk and dizzy – It’s almost impossible to translate songs right now XD – I still want to though – see if “on medication” adds anything to the artistic value.

Also, speaking of – at the very moment I was typing that, these arrived via SAL!!!!!

Anyway – I’m going to go pass out.

Oh wait, one last note. I’ve started a forum type thing as an experiment. I haven’t really done anything to it, and I don’t really feel like linking to it until it’s useful, but what do you guys think about a forum for like Light Novel discussion and what not? I was also going to do it for a Japanese language question and answer thing, but the JL&U have got that covered probably much better than I can do alone.

Here’s one last picture:

^All we’re missing from there is Strength (Yuu).
