Notes:
Shin’shoku is not really a word, but it consists of heart and rot. So the title refers to an impasse in which Kuu’s heart and soul rots away as she is unable to truly move forward.

‘Sess’ is the name of the boy (ghost).

“Corpse” is rhetorical here. While there’s no distinction in dictionaries that I can find between “kabane” and “shikabane” the former does not have “death” at the beginning and I have seen it used more often in a rhetorical fashion.

“it was enough for her to fool herself” (into thinking that she was no longer lonely, no matter how deep the loneliness got)

“Aporia” (from Wiktionary):

aporia (plural aporias)
1. (rhetoric) An expression of deliberation with oneself regarding uncertainty or doubt as to how to proceed.
Examples (rhetoric)
But, how can I describe the beauty of the desert?

kazoekirenu hodo no yoru wo koeta kodoku no kabane
owaranai aporia

Her lonely corpse has spent innumerable nights alone
In unending aporia

nan’do me no arashi darou
mado wo tataku amaoto hibiku raimei
kokoro made nijimu amatsubu

How many storms have passed since then?
The rain on the windows, the resounding thunder
Her silhouette cast by the lightning is always alone
As raindrops bleed into her very soul

son’na aru yoru ni
tobira tataku dareka no koe ga kikoeta
yakata no mae ni wa hitori no shounen’ ga teikan’ idaita kao de tatazun’deita

On one of those nights
She heard the voice of someone knocking on the door
It was a single boy, a ghost,
standing in front of the mansion, his face downcast and resigned

shounen’ no nozomi wa “nin’gen’ rashii seikatsu”
“kanaete wa kurenai darou ka?”

The boy’s wish was to experience “life like a human being”
“Might you grant my wish?”

miezaru te ni michibikareteiku you ni
shoujo wa shounen’ wo ukeirete hohoemiatta
futatabi hajimatta dare ka ga iru mainichi
kagami ni utsuru sugata ga shoujo dake da to shitemo
don’na sabishisa mo gomakaseta

As if she was led by an invisible hand
The girl welcomed the boy and they smiled at each other
Once again, every day there was someone there with her
Even if the only one reflected in the mirror was her
It was enough for her to fool herself

nan’do me no tsukiyo darou
kuttaku no nai Sess no egao ga mitakute

How many moonlit nights have passed since?
Wanting to see Sess’s innocent smile
She would read to him in a room scattered with books
Always feeling warmth when she did

keredo aru yoru ni
nomerikomu Kuu wo shin’pai shita rei ga
taekirenaku nari futari no aida saegitte tamerainagara sasayaita

Yet one night,
A ghost, who worried as Kuu grew ever more attached
Unable to help herself cut between them and hesitantly whispered

“騙されては駄目。幻惑に惹かれないで
―いつか帰って来れなくなるよ?”

“damasarete wa dame. gen’waku ni hikarenaide
itsuka wa kaettekorenakunaru yo?

“Do not be deceived. Don’t be drawn into this trap.
-One day, you may never be able to return.”

miezaru te ni tsuyoku senaka wo osarete
shoujo sae shiranai gekijou ni karare saken’da
“doushite son’na hidoi koto wo ieru no?
anata ni nani ga wakaru no…!?”

Her back pushed strongly by an invisible hand
Kuu was overtaken by an anger she did not know she had and screamed
“How can you say something so awful!?
What do you know about anything…!?”

osaekirezu ni hajiketa kan’jou wa
muon’ ni tada haguruma wo mawashite

The emotions she could not hold back
Soundlessly turned the gears of fate

kaze no taeta yakata ni mou hoka no rei wa konai
tozasareta sekai ni futarikiri de
“moshi kare ni kirawarete, mata hitori ni nattara…?”
sono saki ga hidoku kowai…

By the time the wind had passed no longer would any other ghost visit
In that closed off world only two remained
“If he ever comes to hate me, and I become all alone again…”
The thought was incredibly frightening…

miezaru te ni karametorareteku you ni
shoujo wa shounen’ ni izon’ shite torawareteitta
yumemita hakanaka na toki ga tsudzuku you ni
kono mama sameru koto naku nemuritsudzuketeitai

As she became ever more caught by an invisible hand
She became ever more trapped and dependent on the boy
So that this dreamlike, transient time would continue
She wished to never wake from her dream, but sleep forever
