始符「博麗命名決闘法布告ノ儀」 // Shifu “Hakurei Meimei Kettouhou Fukoku no Gi”

Synopsis:
Reimu’s ancestors declare a new rule of law concerning dueling (danmaku play) so that Gensoukyou does not destroy itself. I say the second narrator is a half-slumbering and observing Yukari.

So now raise up your words of beginning, so much that they reach the heavens!

  1. …I’m sorry, you’re probably tired of seeing me comment.
    BUT.
    I’m pretty sure 昂揚 is spelled as “takaburi” not “takanari”. Again, source is my ears + said wiki, and also Releska’s translation

    • Yeah, I didn’t even have to listen to check that one, that was a mistype ^o^;

  2. Seriously, I clearly don’t have this level of english to translate like this ^^”…

    I don’t know if the translation of Releska and my little comment was useful, but for me, the song is really difficult to translate.

    • This was not an easy translation. I probably spent an hour just staring at the title. It’s not only the old-honorific language at the beginning, but also the floating narration that’s both unclear and hard to translate without sounding awkward in English.

      I’m used to the older language, so it’s less daunting for me, but especially the old honorifics can be used to mean almost anything given the context (hence why “you hear/you know” can equal “you rule/eat/drink/do”), and it’s hard to make a whole stanza in old sounding English when the meaning of the original first stanza can be summed up as an extremely polite “Hear ye, Hear ye!” ^^;

      There is perhaps a bit of nuance between きこしめす and しろしめす – “so that you (honorable folk) will hear me” and “so that the humans and ayakashi will all know this”, the former being at least somewhat seeking approval and the latter being more “imposing my/our will” (because of the placement of the にs). Neither verb is “causative”, but it is made so effectively by the んと. “(I am doing this) so that you will all hear == I am making you listen to me.”

      • Completely agree with you opinion. There are many word with many definition possible. Thanks you to take your time to answer. RD-Sounds is very Japenese, so it’s very difficult to always translate properly without affect the original stanza and the old honorifics. Anyways, it was interesting to compare your translation with Releska. Thanks again to always translate these difficult songs of RD-Sounds.

  3. Correct me if I’m wrong, but weren’t the spell card rules created by Reimu herself?
