from the corpse to the journey

Requested by myself, and someone over at Amen’s site I think.

Wow guys, it’s been a long time.

O-Rin talks down to “mister” as if she were talking with a pet that can’t quite understand her.

I also like how the last stanza makes it sound like she’s headed for heaven, with the “as long as you’re with me, there’s nothing to worry” attitude – because as we all know, she’s headed for hell.

Notes:

“If a companion is to a journey as compassion is to the afterlife” is modified from the parable “A companion to a journey is as compassion is to life.” Basically, as a companion is the best thing you can have on a journey, compassion is the best trait you can carry with you in life.

Hey there, mister! Now what’cha doing in a place like this?
Did you get yourself lost and end up dead?

are are, oniisan, moshikashite kega demo shiteta no kana

What’s that, mister? You didn’t get yourself hurt did you?
I mean, for us to meet here of all places!

nanika no goen’ kana, tsureteitte ageyou ka
nagai tabi no michidzure ni hanashiaite ga hitori areba?

Fate at work? I guess I could take you along with me…
Nothing wrong with having someone along for a long journey, right?

sou sou, oniisan, ashita no yotei wa nani datta no kana
himatsuide ni hitotsu kikaseteokure yo

Oh, I know, mister! What did’ja plan on doing tomorrow?
Tell me all about it! There’s plenty of time to kill!

gen’ki wo dashite hitotsu akaruku ikou yo

Come now, mister! There’s no need to be shy!
Cheer up! Let’s see a smile, you can do it!

yukue shirazu no tabiji ni obienakutatte ii sa
douse saigo no mokutekichi wa, min’na issho datte wakatterun’ dakara ne

So you don’t know where you’re headed – There’s no need to be afraid!
After all, don’t you know? Everyone’s final destination ends up being the same right?

tabi wa michidzure ano yo mo nasake nara
maemuki ni ikiteikou!
mada minu ashita wa ten’goku ka jigoku nano ka
sore wa shitairyokou no hate ni!

If a companion is to a journey as compassion is to the afterlife,
Then let’s go and die live with a smile!!
Will your yet unseen tomorrow be in heaven or hell?
The answer awaits you at the end of this corpse journey!

You say you want to go home?
I’m sorry, but I’m pretty sure I can’t help ya there…

maa maa, oniisan, datte jibun’ ga dou natta ka nan’te
douse sono nari ja wakatte sae nain’ daro?

There there, mister. After all, with that look you’re giving me,
I bet’cha don’t even realize what’s happened do ya?

hora hora, oniisan, shin’jatta mono wa shou ga nai kedo
an’gai warui mono demo nai kamo shirenai yo?

Don’t be that way, mister. I mean, it sucks you died and all
But it might not be all that bad you know?

dewa dewa, oniisan, atarashii tabidachi wo shukushite wa
gen’ki wo dashite hitotsu akaruku ikou yo!

Well then, mister. To celebrate the start of your new journey,
Cheer up! Let’s see a smile, you can do it!

hito no mi de osoreta mono mo kowagaranakute ii sa
kuruma ga nishimukya o wa higashi, saritote sekai wa tsudzuiteikun’ dakara

All the things you feared while you were human won’t be a problem anymore!
It’s cause and effect – I turn this way, my tails turn that – but the world will go on!

tabi wa michidzure kono yo mo nasake nara
maemuki ni shin’deikou!
mada minu ashita wa jigoku ka ten’goku nano ka
sore wa tanoshii tabiji no hate ni ne!

If a companion is to a journey as compassion is to this life,
Then let’s go and live die with a smile!
Will your yet unseen tomorrow be in hell or heaven?
The answer awaits you at the end of this fun journey!

saa tabi wa nagaku kuruma wa omoku naru
michidzure ga ita naraba
mada minu ashita ni kokoro odorasenagara
atai to issho ni megutteikou yo

Well, the journey is long and my cart heavy
As long as you’ve got a companion,
You can look forward to that yet unseen tomorrow,
So let’s get going, you and I!

shitairyokou wa hajimari hajimari!

And so our corpse journey begins!

is not the lyrics of A melo and B melo swapped?
As long listen it should be 生きていこう in A melo and 死 ん で いこう in B melo

    • Thanks for catching that! – I added “del” tags because it’s written backwards/opposite of what’s being sung in the booklet. This wouldn’t be the first time RD’s done this, and this makes it go more along with “the singer is lying/not being truthful to the person she’s singing to.”

  1. Oh my god yes thank you! I love you Kafka <3
