Bohyou

墓標 is the first track on the CD 屠 -hohuri-. It is numbered the 14th track. 屠 is written ほふり and pronounced “hofuri” or optionally “houri” it means “slaughter”. The theme of the album is the original story, not the revamped and re-written and glossed over story, but original story of Dolls in Pseudo Paradise, as it was released at C62.

墓標 is an original track, musically at least (well there are hints of 空飛ぶ巫女の不思議な毎日), its themes immersed in Dolls in Pseudo Paradise.

I resolved to translate this bleeding and with blood on my hands.

So I did what any other unhealthy person does.

I brushed my teeth.

We of the honest village, originally numbered eight.
We had decided to move together into the eastern mountains, and since then
nearly a year had passed. Every day was for us an honest tedium.
One day, one of our group found a small hole near a peach tree.
It was from then on that we wandered into paradise.
That was when I, then and there in that moment, quit being human.

Really though. I have a bad habit of not balancing my hobbies but rather shifting between them, so these past few days I’ve spent attacking 終物語, rather than addressing these various albums on my list that -need- to be translated.

The usual RD preface of course still applies – RD’s lyrics alone are worth taking the trouble to learn Japanese.

As a translator’s note. In RD songs. “lalala” traditionally is used as a sound effect for murdering and/or eating someone alive.

There are at least two (if you treat the latter two as combined), probably three narrators. The last “one”, the “survivor” and “clown”, as well as an “observer” (around the line about the farce).

Also, I’d like to point out, that this song agrees with my interpretation (asserted in 2010) of who is the culprit of Dolls in Pseudo Paradise. ^^v

TL Notes:

“It only took a single night’s curse.” : The curse is the Ushi-no-Koku-Mairi, the one with the straw dolls being nailed to a tree. It traditionally takes seven nights to take effect.

“you only get enough to let you cross to the afterlife.” is making a pun on the traditional “early bird gets the worm” phrase. Where the early riser is rewarded “3 mon”. In this case it’s twice as much – but what’s important is that 6 mon is the price you have to pay to get to the afterlife, so 6 mon represents the poison put in his breakfast (see Dolls in Pseudo Paradise), ie. a ticket to the afterlife.

sou, soko ni wa dare mo i wa shinai

There is no one left. No,
Not even you.
Not even you are left alive.

soko ni wa tada, aru no wa.
nido to sei wo kizamu koto no nai mukuro-.

All that remains are but corpses
Those that will never breathe life again.

kubi to karada to wa hanarebanare.

One with its head removed from its body.

maboroshi ni shizumu, katwara, haritsuke ni.

One sinking into an illusion of happiness, another crucified.

soshite, boku to ieba,
nido to chi wo fumu koto sae nai kabane-.

And I as well,
Am lifeless, never to walk the earth again.

ashi wo fumiireta hourai no chi ni,
bokura no rakuen’ wo yume mita no ni

When we stepped into this land called Hourai,
We had only ever dreamed of paradise.

aa bokura wa

Ah, we –
We didn’t know anything.
Not even that this land of liars existed.

aa nani wo

bokura wa kitto nakayoku ikiteikeru hazu datta no ni

Ah, just –
Just where did we go wrong?
There must have been some way for us to live happily ever after.

-If only, if at least you were here…

“I can’t stay in this frightening place,
No,
Not a second longer.”

Letting your feet carry themselves
Right into your own grave, what a fool.

A world that you absolutely cannot understand.

What terrible taste, this dolls’ farce
No wonder no one could stay sanely human.

aa karera wa
kaku mo oroka datta no da
kurayami no mukougawa de nazo no piero ga waratteiru

“But who would have thought
They would be this stupid!”
Laughs a mysterious clown from beyond the darkness.

aa boku koso

You see for I,

Taking those idiots’ final moments as proof of my justice,

soshite dare mo inaku naru mae ni

Before none of us remain,
Here are the gravestones I’ll carve in the depths of my heart:

疑いもせず 手に取る報い
好奇心こそ最大の敵よ

utagai mo sezu te ni toru mukui
koukishin’ koso saidai no teki yo

That’s the price you pay, reaching out with nary a doubt
Curiosity iself, that is our worst enemy.

sou, kizumareru beki da hitorihitori

Yes, they should be engraved, one after another.

hitori yo aruki shinobiyoru kage wa
osanasa yue kidzukezu ni ita ka

Walking alone at night – Was it because you were
So young you didn’t notice the creeping shadow?

sou, kizumareru beki da hitorihitori

Yes, they should be engraved, one after another.

agaku koto sae tamesenu hodo ni
satosa to wa orokasa to dougi ka

So much that you would not even attempt to struggle
Is it that wisdom and idiocy are defined the same?

sou, kizumareru beki da hitorihitori

Yes, they should be engraved, one after another.

koi no nigasa to inochi no amasa
otona no aji wa yudan’taiteki

Holding the bitterness of love and the sweetness of life
It is that adult taste of which you must be most wary

sou, kizumareru beki da hitorihitori

Yes, they should be engraved, one after another.

hitoyo kagiri no ushi no koku mairi
keikai nado imi no nai sekai

It only took a single night’s curse
Precaution means nothing in this world

sou, kizumareru beki da hitorihitori

Yes, they should be engraved, one after another.

For a final meal, it really was a bit too poor wasn’t it?
For an early riser, you only get enough to let you cross to the afterlife.

sou, kizumareru beki da hitorihitori

Yes, they should be engraved, one after another.

shoujikimono ga baka wo miru no da
okubyoumono ni susumu michi nashi

Those that are honest only set themselves up for a cruel fate
There is no road left for cowards to continue along

sou, kizumareru beki da hitorihitori

Yes, they should be engraved, one after another.

aa nani wo tagaeteshimatta no ka
bokura wa kitto nakayoku ikiteikeru hazu datta noni
aa semete kimi ga itekureta nara
saigo no shoujikimono wo shin’jirareta ka mo shirenai na
nado to bakame ga! yomaigoto ni shizume!
shoujiki mono ga baka wo miru son’na sekai no rule nara
aa! boku koso saigo no shousha nano da!
sono shin’jitsu wo kamishimete ima rakuen’ wo ato ni shite
bohyou ni kizan’da kazu dake
mune ni komiageru shouri no yoin’ ni warau.

“Ah, just – just where did we go wrong?
There must have been some way for us to live happily ever after!”
“Ah, if only – if only you were here,
I might have been able to trust the last of us!”
What an idiot! You take that nonsense to your grave!
It’s a rule, those that are honest only set themselves up for a cruel fate!
You see for I, I am the final victor!
Reflecting on that truth I now leave this paradise behind me
Laughing in the welling thrill of my victories
That number as many as the gravestones I leave behind.

Oh god I read the line ““lalala” traditionally is used as a sound effect for murdering and/or eating someone alive.”

then went to play the song and got greeted by ‘lalala’s… orz

Oh I find Ka-Fu heresy because you claim “lalala” is used to symbolize murder/canniborism. Check ヒカリ the song you translate past and there is no door to decode “lalala” as any malicious behavior.

Well I love げんきになったときのうた in this album the most.

Hey, i browsed your site, and i can’t found “Syrufit – your love” lyric.
I wondered why.. You did the others, but why the first song is missed?
So, can you translate it for me?
It’s a slow and simple song. Don’t you like it? :3

I bet you have the booklet already, but here’s the kanji and romaji: http://waa.ai/4Vwq

I’m happy to see both you and RD share my fascination with DiPP.
