After Dark

I just finished 朝顔, the 6th book in the Hikaru series, but I have decided that I’m not going to write any more reviews for it. Any more reviews at this point will take too much effort to not be spoiler-tastic, and I really haven’t felt like reviewing these anywhere near the extent I did for the 文学少女 series. However, the series has gotten better and I still recommend it. 315264 from least to most favorite volumes by the way.

It looks like I haven’t translated anything in a while… I tried to force myself to translate a song last week and the week before that, but in the end I thought it best to take a break and just drown myself in books.

This week I’m going to interview for a JET CIR position, and if all goes well I might be off to Japan in a few months.

Anyway, so I wanted to translate something nostalgic, that I probably should have translated a long time ago, but never got around to. I had no idea this was a Bleach opening until after I had listened to it over 300 times. In fact, now I almost always equate AKFG songs with 四畳半神話大系 or other stories by the same author.

Notes:

The cover of the album art for this songs single is a rooster. Everything makes sense now doesn’t it?

 After Dark
[ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION]
//ワールドワールドワールド//

senaka no kage ga nobikiru sono aima ni nigeru
hagareochita hane ni mo kidzukazu ni tobu

Before the shadow behind me stretches too far, I run
Not realizing the feathers stripped from me, I fly

machikado amai nioi ryuusen’
tooku mukou kara
doko ka de kiita you na nakigoe

I smell something sweet at the street corner and drool
Far off in the distance
I hear a cry I felt I’ve heard before

yokaze ga hakobu awai kibou wo nosete
doko made yukeru ka
sore wo kobamu you ni sekai wa yurete subete wo ubaisaru
yume nara sameta
dakedo bokura wa mada nani mo shiteinai
susume

Riding on the hope brought in the night breeze
Just how far can I go?
As if it were rejecting me the world spins and everything is taken away
I’ve already woken from my dreams,
But we still have done nothing.
We’ve got to move on!

mahiru no taida wo tachikiru you na soburi de ukabu
umareochita kumo made miorosu you ni tobu

As if I’m cutting myself off from the laziness of midday, I float upwards
So that I’ll be looking down upon the clouds that gather below, I fly

machikado chi no nioi ryuusen’
tooku mukou kara
doko ka de kiita you na nakigoe

I smell blood at the street corner, flowing in the air
Far off in the distance
I hear crying I felt I’ve heard before

dorodoro nagareru fukaku akai tsuki ga arawarete furareru sai
detarame na hibi wo tachikiritai
nani kuwanu kao de owaranu you ni

Slowly sludging along, the deep red moon appears and the dice are thrown
I want to rid myself of these pointless and random days
I don’t want it all to end as if nothing ever happened

yokaze ga hakobu awai kibou wo nosete
dokomade yukeru ka
sore wo kobamu you ni sekai wa yurete subete wo ubaisaru
yume nara sameta
dakedo bokura wa mada nani mo shiteinai
susume

Riding on the hope brought in the night breeze
Just how far can I go?
As if it were rejecting me the world spins and everything is taken away
I’ve already woken from my dreams,
But we still have done nothing.
We’ve got to move on!
