Shinkuu no Melancholy

Woo, these stanzas are all over the place, but that’s part of the fun!

Still trying to speed up a little bit, but it’s hard to get more than one out a day during the week, when there’s other stuff I’m trying to get done ^^;

Notes:

“That wheelchair man” is understood to be Stephen Hawking (I met him in person btw :D)

“standard time in orbit…” Universal Standard Time (UTC “Universal Coordinated Time”) is very similar to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) GMT is equivalent to UT0. UT1 is UT0 with polar adjustments. UT2 is UT1 with seasonal adjustments. UTC is always within one second of UT1.

“secondary escape velocity” as opposed to “primary escape velocity” which is the minimum surface velocity required by an object to achieve a satellite orbit, the secondary escape velocity is the maximum initial surface velocity for an object to escape into orbit but not break from Earth’s gravity altogether.

gen’shidokei ga kizamu toki wo sora no ue made hibikase
yami wo osorenai kurumaisu wa kami wa inai to katatta

Sending the time recorded by an atomic clock off ringing past the skies
That wheelchair man, unafraid of the darkness said, “There is no god.”

spin suru uchuusen’ wa ryoushiteki na sekai no hanashi sa
sora no hate ni ikeba mon’dai wa mou doko ni mo nakatta to

Those spinning cosmic rays are just a matter of a quantum world;
If you make it to the end of the sky, you’ll find all problems gone!

kidoujou no kijun’jikan’ chikyuujou mo onaji de
son’na mujun’ mo itoshikute
ten’mon’dai no byoushin’ ni imi nan’te nai kedo
sore ga hito no aishikata sa

It’s such a lovely paradox that the time used in orbit
Is no different from the time used on Earth!
Those seconds of an astronomical observatory may hold no meaning,
But that’s one way we humans show our love.

down beat no shikainai de hyoujisokudo wa muimi de
kudaku hikari ga shimesu saki wa tsuki no yume da to kan’jita
yami no saki made todoku you na gen’gajikan’ no hoshikuzu
juuryokuka no kan’jouron’ wa itsumo hito no kokoro wo utsu kara

I felt that here at the end of this light – meaninglessly smashed by the
Apparent velocity read under the down beat’s field of vision – was the moon’s dream.
It was the stardust of primordial times reaching out to the ends of darkness.
After all, under the influence of gravity, sentimental arguments always strike people’s hearts.

maa touzen’ no koto dakedo rock’n roll datte ban’nou ja nai n’da

If only we could take off at will, with secondary escape velocity!
But of course, even rock n’ roll has its limits.

jissaimon’dai jibun’jishin’ dake no hanashi demo
ichiban’ omotai mono desu
negatta koto ga kanawanai no wa oomune
sekai no sei ja nai tte

Though practical problems only really concern ourselves
They’re also the most heavy.
It may be a given that what you wish for almost never comes true
But that’s not the world’s fault.

back beat de unaru hoshi wo omoidoori ni kudaita
den’kijikake no ori no naka sore ga ichiban’ ii kara
android no sekaikan’ wo rikai dekitara ii no ni
juuryokuka no kan’jouron’ wa itsuka kitto gin’ga wo tsukuru yo

I’d rather be nowhere else, locked inside this electric cage that
Smashed at will those stars moaning under the back beat
If only I could understand what androids think of the world!
Under the influence of gravity, sentimental arguments will one day craft galaxies.

wasurerareta hoshi mo me de toraeru koto dake wa dekiru kara
moshimo kan’jou ga mieru naraba eien’ datte

Since we still can capture even forgotten stars in our eyes
If we could see emotion, then it would be forever!

You met Stephen Hawking?! How awesome is that!

    • Yep, I went to a conference/lecture he held at a nearby university some 10+ years ago. I said hi to him, basically. That was back when I was sure I was going to be an astrophysicist for NASA or something and was really REALLY studying up on everything he was doing (so I actually understood the lecture and it was awesome).

Hello Kafka ! I know that you translated this song and is a very complicated song like Renko (but I really like it, after all that’s a remix of Greenwhich in the Sky).

Do you know the novel name Yumeutsutsu. That’a a novel who relate the end of Gensokyo with Maribel and Renko. I really recommanded it (because you’re a big fan of this couple), there are 4 chapter translated in English in Wings of yuri (there are some images makes by Akira Eda, I think). In my opinion you fall in love with the novel after read the first chapter.

After, I don’t know were you can have the RAW. There are an official site you can go if you want, maybe there are a link to buy the book…

Oh ! And thanks for translated Trojan Green Asteroid. Really like the moment when Renko speaks of the gun (Renko in Shoot em all).

    • Thanks a lot for the info!

I found the source that Wings of Yuri used and I think I’ll take a look at it – since it’s from 2008 getting a hard copy’d probably be an adventure…
