Kyouki ni Michita Fukashi no Tama

I’ve been waiting to use both of these images for a while.

First of all: ::effort:: (´∀`*)

I’ve never really been a fan of rap or anything, but TAMAONSEN’s been impressing me lately. Maybe I’ll have to rethink the genre a little, at least from the Japanese perspective. I’m not touching any of that gangsta’ nonsense.

Requested by: YSen
^Forgive me for saving this for last – took me a while to get the lyrics, and well – the amount put me off for a bit.

The guy that scanned the album booklet for this CD went a little crazy, the “scans” folder was something 250MB. Σ(゚口゚; At least that means I didn’t have to trouble with blurry characters or anything.

ytr, the rapper/lyricist:

^I doubt the validity of the assumption, but I like to imagine they’re all cross-dressers.

Notes:
I said “Invisible Pearl Filled with Insanity”, but “Invisible Gem Filled with Insanity” works too, it’s not explicitly a pearl (it would if it were 真珠), but since it’s referencing the moon, well, pearl sounded right.

I put romaji because I challenge you to sing along.

“I heard someone from far away landed on the surface” – “surface” here would generally refer to the earth’s surface, so the rumors are probably about Houraisan Kaguya and Yagokoro Eirin.

Higurashi are “evening cicada”, they sound nice, not like the annoying other type.

“Their flag they left, why I don’t know, looked eerily as if it were waving” – the US flag on the moon is made to look as if it were waving, as well – there’s no wind on the moon to blow it, it’s for aesthetics, and to well – see the actual flag.

I just realized how ridiculously identical this the hypothetical Apollo 13 landing on a moon filled with rabbits compares to Perry’s landing in Japan.

“Young lady, when oh when, will you leave your cage?”
^Kagome can be spelt two ways: 籠女、籠目, the first meaning “caged woman/lady” the second “wicker cage pattern/gaps in a cage/box”. – I guess that gives dual meaning to the children’s song – though at least on the surface that’s about a bird.

Wrapping up the gist of the story, if it’s not clear in the lyrics, Reisen fled from the surface of the moon as a refugee in the ensuing “war” that began with the Apollo 11 moon landing, finding refuge with Kaguya and Eirin on Earth, employed as their head of security.

I’m sort of itching to make this flow a little more clearly, so I might do a few edits when I’m a little more awake… (ended up deciding that at least read along with the song it fits about as well as it will).

Here’s an explanation of the changes in nth-person, because sometimes I wonder if the English I use is really “proper”:
“When things fall apart, you realize how cruelly fragile they were;” – “You” is used to generalize the statement.
“Burning in her crimson eyes, was an invisible pearl filled with insanity” – “Her” is used to distance the statement from the personalized narrator (Reisen) to a more omniscient one, and just after mentioning the start of end of a tale, it works as if it were a line in that tale.

No answer

Tsuki no uwasa “tooi doko ka no dare ka ga chijou ni otosareta”
No answer dou demo ii yotabanashi ni hana wo sakashiteita
Shigarami nado ke hodo mo naku keredo ima de wa nobasedo te mo todokazu
Kazukazu no soumatou tadoru mienai nanika wo sagashiteita
Toosenbo touzen to omotteita mono ga kore hodo made ni muzukashii

A rumor on the moon, “I heard someone from far away landed on the surface”
I had no answer – but from such useless idle gossip a flower blossomed
I had never had anything to tie me down, but now –
this I cannot reach no matter how I try
Countless visions spun before me, as I searched for something I could not see
I walked about, wanting to be sure, consciousnesses mixing within me
For this warm, new place I had to decide, one or the other – I reached out my hand
But stopped at the crossroads, blocking the way;
how could something I thought would be so obvious, be so difficult?
Faintly I felt a resonance, vibration – certainly strange and strangely nostalgic

But our happiness and peace would not last forever; enemies, intruders appeared
They came as the higurashi cried, and before even their song could end
The humans fled, but acted as if they owned the place
Their flag they left, why I don’t know, looked eerily as if it were waving

Kuzureru toki wa hidoku moroku nani mo wakaranu koto bakari
Meguri meguru megurameku usagi wa subete wo nagesute kakedashita
Kyouki to konran ga uzumaku tokaku hajimaru monogatari
Kurenai no hitomi ni yakitsuku kyou ki ni michita fukashi no tama

When things fall apart, you realize how cruelly fragile they were;
you realize how very little you know
Rabbits were coming and going dizzily back and forth
each one throwing away everything and dashing away
Madness and confusion twisted in a spiral; it was the start of many a tale:
Burning in her crimson eyes, was an invisible pearl filled with insanity

Nani ga okita ka wakaranu mama haikei ni sobieru hitotsu no haran
Fuan wo sara ni aoran to uwasabanashi shinjitsu wa doko
Fukashi no tama usagi no saga zaregoto zaregoto no wadakamari
Oudo tae kaketa war todaekaketa kyou ni naku mitsumeru asu

Still not knowing what was going on, behind me towered a storm
The flames of anxiety climbed higher with rumor; where is the truth?
Invisible pearl – it’s the nature of rabbits to spout joke and nonsense in panic and dispute
As I fought the urge to vomit, the war raced on,
crying of the end begun today, looking to tomorrow

No answer

Sasu you na tsukiakari ga mazu kyou wo uchimakashita
Nasusube mo nakushiteita asu dareka ga kuchizusamu tsumi to batsu
Kakure tawamure omoidasu wa itsu zo ya no koukei
Kitanaki yo mukachi no tama no mashita nite akai fukachi no hana wo sakashita

Grasping at straws, rumors on the wind, I ran about avoiding anyone’s gaze
I had no answer, I couldn’t find any, but searched randomly, recklessly about
I was lost but in the end found myself in a bamboo forest
where there were others I could talk to
Now working for some citizens of the full moon on the run,
this was a second chance out of invisibility
The piercing moonlight beat down first today,
But for tomorrow I had lost all way or reason,
as someone hummed about crime and punishment
Hiding and playing tricks like this reminded me of some scene just out of memory
In a filth-ridden world, just under a valueless pearl blossomed a red flower, unknowable

Kyouki to no hazama ni tatazumu kitanaki yo no utsukushiki ori
Toki wo mo tome yoru wo makikomu mata hitotsu owaru monogatari
Kurenai no hitomi ni yakitsuku kyouki ni michita fukashi no tama

It was a long, long story of twisting darkness seeking light
Standing in the gaps between insanity, in a beautiful cage in a filth-ridden world
Wrapped up in another night, when even time stood still, another of my tales ended:
Burning in her crimson eyes, was an invisible pearl filled with insanity

“Kagome, kagome” “Itsu, itsu de yaru”
Tsunagari ga kureta koto bakari hajimaru to owari wa higurashi naku koro ni
Iyashiki tami to tsuki no hazama kitanaki yo to shadan sareta utsukushiki ori
“Kagome, kagome” “Itsu, itsu de yaru”
Imada ni wasurenai monogatari tamitachi no otogibanashi ga niau hodo ni
Nagaki yoru no naka kagayaita kyouki ni michiafure kakusareta fukashi no tama

“Young lady, when, oh when will you leave your cage?”
You realize how everything is connected,
both beginning and ending come as the higurashi cry
In the gap between these lowly peoples and those of the moon
lies a beautiful cage cut off from this filth-ridden world
“Young lady, when, oh when will you leave your cage?”
That tale I still can’t forget; it’s too much like the villagers’ fairy tales
In this long night shines an invisible pearl – hidden, overflowing with insanity

No answer

Chijou no uwasa yoru ga tomaru hottan wa tozashita tobira no mukou
No answer shinjitsu wo kakushita yami ni tokashita toki wa fudou
Chibeta wo haiuzukumaru iyashiki tami irekawari tachikawari
Turning point tsuuka gensou no naka shiru yoshi mo nai kageru tsuki no ashita
Ihen wo sacchi shita monotachi to oboroge na monogatari no saisho
Toutotsu na start subete wo kaeta no wa ningen no apollo juu ichi gou
Ihen wo sacchi shita monotachi to mitodoketa monogatari no saigo
Mata arata ni hajimaru monogatari wo kakitashi minna to tomo ni arukou

There was rumor on the earth’s surface that night had stopped, first behind closed doors
I gave no answer, I hid the truth; in that darkness time stood still
For the lowly people that crawl about the earth ever interchanging this is no different
Now past the point of no return, in an illusion there is no way to know the waning moon
Then some realized something was wrong and a hazy story began
The start was sudden, everything changed because of the humans’ invasion, Apollo 11
Once some realized something was wrong, I witnessed another end
But once again our story begins anew, appended as we all walk on

First: Holy crap that is a lot of lyrics. I can see why you left this for last.

Second: Thank you so, so much for all the translations.

Interesting take on the theme. I think I like it. Thanks for the translation. I’m sure it wasn’t easy.
