秋扇 // Aki-Ougi

Shi-Ba-YAN~!
キタ━━━━━(Д゚(○=(゚∀゚)=○)゚Д゚(○=(゚∀゚)=○)Д゚)━━━━━━!!!!

I’m a big Momiji fan, so it was hard for me to keep it to 3 images rather than 4, let alone the usual 2. ヽ(╹ε╹)ノ

This song could describe Shameimaru Aya, as cued by one of the title’s meanings, then described as an essence of wind and nature, but also it could be something about the world in general. I like to think the song is narrated by Momiji or a Momiji like figure, gazing over the lands at the top of the falls, over the wind and trees and sky as the day ends and sunset then into night.

Notes:
秋扇 can be pronounced Aki-Ougi or Shuusen, but in following with how 静寂 is “Shijima” not “Seijaku” I’m pretty sure it’s Aki-Ougi, if not “Aki no Ougi”.
Rather than “Autumn Fan” which would refer to Shameimaru Aya, “As Autumn to a Fan” is another possible translation, and refers often to a woman who loses interest in something quickly with the passing seasons, but also more generally to things becoming useless with the passing of time.

Lyrics kick in at 1:39 (not uncommon with Shibayan)

I’m putting romaji because the readings of a lot of the words are tough, even for me, and I’ll be doing so with the rest of the songs on this album, Kokoro Vibration.
As for the romaji, there are slurs (unusual in vocals in Japanese) like “sue” being pronounced “swe”; “aranuka” is pronounced “aranka”, “ootsuki” is pronounced “oyotsuki” (similar to how baai is pronounced “bawai” by (most) people)

A zelkova, or zeklova seratta is a type of large tree.

ふわり舞い上がり 咲く空に浮かび
夕掛く瀬にながれ 空雲かに見遣る
水面に映ろう たなびく萱穂吹き鳴らし
清冽に真白に 大地を吹き抜けゆく

Fuwari maiagari saku sora ni ukabi
Yuukaku se ni nagare sora kumo ka ni mieru
Minamo ni utsurou tanabiku kayaho fukinarashi
Seiretsuni mashiro ni daichi wo fukinukeyuku

Lightly ascending, floating into a blossoming sky
Flowing into currents drifting toward evening, watching over sky and cloud
Soaring through, sounding swaying reeds reflected on the water’s surface
Cool and clear, pure white, blowing through over the continent

そう 嵐のように
そう 苦界の間の世に
そう 灼かのように
ああ 大槻の 海が 朱く染まる

Sou arashi no you ni
Sou kugai no ma no yo ni
Sou arataka no you ni
Aa ootsuki no umi ga akaku somaru

Yes, like a storm
Yes, in a world bound with suffering
Yes, so miraculously
Ah, the sea of giant zelkova is sinking into crimson

ああ 流れ落ちる
そう 虚実の 末の世に
そう 在らぬかの ように
ああ 三日月の静寂に沈む

Aa nagare ochiru
Sou kyojitsu no sue no yo ni
Sou aranuka no you ni
Aa mikadzuki no shijima ni shizumu

Ah, flowing and falling
Yes, in the world at the end of truth and lies
Yes, as if it weren’t even there
Ah, sinking into the silence of the crescent moon

Hey, I was wondering about your translation of the title in regard to “refers often to a woman who loses interest in something quickly with the passing seasons,” as I noticed a similar-but-different entry in jisho.org:
“woman who has lost a man’s affection or interest”
    http://jisho.org/words?jap=%E7%A7%8B%E6%89%87&eng=&dict=edict

I know dictionaries can have mistakes etc., but I thought I’d throw that out there, especially since the song/lyrics sound more mournful, albeit vague.

Great song; thanks for your translation efforts, particularly in that they add a lot to Shibayan tracks, which I’ve been recently discovering more.
