煌野へ / Kouya e / On Towards A Sparkling Paradise
This is in part an apology for not getting 卯酉東海道～Retrospective 53 Minutes out, when I really should have released it about a month ago. I just got caught up doing other things, and spent a lot of time trying to up my reading proficiency rather than my translating proficiency (I’ll admit both still need a bit of polishing.)
Out of pure coincidence, I came about this song that I’m sure I wouldn’t have found any other way – it’s not even documented on vgmdb.net, and that’s saying something. So, at any rate – while you wait (I should structure a schedule for that translation), here’s a piano/vocal arrangement of my favorite track on the third Renko and Merry music collection. Here is the link to the album page on the artist’s website: [link]. As with most Touhou arranges, you can listen via searching the title in Kanji on YouTube.
As this is plainly narrated by Renko, I get to spoil her and post pictures of only her. ^_^
“On Towards A Sparkling Paradise” is strictly speaking “shining/sparkling fields” though given the context is most likely a place where they can see the stars. Part of me also sees a shining mound of sugar, but that’s probably just me.
As for background – this track takes place on a certain special underground train in Renko’s time where it looks like the entire train, from floor to ceiling is made out of glass, like a test tube running along the tracks with views of Mount Fuji as well as a beautiful view of the sea. However, you heard me say underground right? It’s completely and totally fabricated. A fake view, a fake sky, and no matter how lovely it may be, you cannot see the stars. Something about that situation touches me in a strange emotional way, and all I can say is ZUN, you’re brilliant.
Hopefully I’ll have this Retrospective out soon, but in the mean time, look to other stuff I’ve finished at the Translations/Side Projects Page [link]
Edit: I have now made a page in vgmdb for this album, first one I’ve added so feel free to make format corrections! [link]

53ミニッツの青い海｜卯酉東海道～Retrospective 53 Minutes
Circle: ヤヤネヒロ (Lunatico)
Album: 思君楼 -Eine Phantasmagorie-
Like this over sweetened tea
My heart races, set afire by
this false sky, and this gentle time
It feels like you could just reach out and touch
This deep, deep ultramarine
But here, I cannot see the stars
How many colors
In front of you
And of me?
I take another cube of sugar
And watch it disappear into my cup
More than the blue outside this window
That clear smile of yours
Takes my breath away
It just drifts on by, inorganic
That deep, deep ultramarine
For in it, you cannot see the stars
My happiness slowly builds…
No matter how long I stir, it just won’t dissolve
