Rakujitsu Romance

“On the shores of the Sanzu River, past Muen’dzuka, the great brothel Mayoigarou, ‘The Tower of Lost Moths’, lies.”

“Over time, the systems of high and low class that had reigned over a hundred years had broken down, youkai, humans ghostly beings driven by desire intermixing – eventually you would end up with a mess like me.”

*door slams open* ‘What’s up lolicon!’ “…Is that the way you greet all your customers, Marisa?”

//

落日 “Rakujitsu” is a 16 page R-18 story about Marisa and Rinnousuke written by “matilda” as part of a group doujinshi “霧雨ロマンポルノ”/Kirisame Romantic Porno by “MATILDAvs赤色バニラ”. Rinnousuke visits Marisa at a famous brothel – she recently had run away from home after she was raped by her father and became a prostitute at said brothel of her own accord, using her father’s surname as her stage name as a stated way of getting back at him. As a little girl Marisa used to play at Rinnousuke’s shop, and there is a short faded image of her sitting in his lap.

Notes (2021-12-12):

The astute among you may notice that there are no negatives in the original Japanese of the first stanza. (せん is せむ not せぬ) But the negatives here do not carry negative meaning, only aggressive emphasis. “Were they not surely born to play?” = “Surely they were born to play.” This negative also hints at the unspoken parts of the story in the song, when Marisa’s innocent nature was stolen from her: “Surely I too was born to play, like those other children, yet here I am.”

The final line: “帰れなくしてね” is referring to how Marisa used to be entranced by all of the things at Rinnosuke’s shop, and so literally is “don’t let me leave”, both in the past sense of “don’t let me go home so I can be abused by my father” and in the present sense of “don’t make me go back to this life in the brothel; make it so that I can stay with you”. It can also be interpreted as “please kill me, because I know you won’t take me with you”. I originally translated this line as “and don’t leave, but stay”, in part because “don’t let me leave” there sounds like “don’t let me leave the brothel”, which is not what the line is saying. Additionally, every time he leaves, that means that he is not taking her with him, so the existing translation works as a sort of compromise. I probably should have made a note about it when I originally translated the song (6.5 years ago), but I might have not picked up on all of the meaning carried by that line back then.

-asobi wo sen’ to ya umarekemu

-asobu kodomo no kikeba, koe kikeba
-wagami sae koso, sae koso yurugarure

-Were they not surely born to play?
-Were they not surely born to frolic?
-When I hear children playing, when I hear their voices,
-It moves me, it shakes me to my very soul.

As the sun sets, in place of the rising stars,
My body is a fragment of stardust.

Though there be near infinite amounts of stardust,
In your arms I am the brightest star.

“Please, love me,” I say,
Living, defiling this name of mine.

I had thought lying was my specialty, but
My heart is constantly grating.

Just how many more lies of love must I repeat
So that I may be your star?

kono mi wo hoshikuzu to chirashiyuku.

Night upon night killing my heart,
I scatter my body about and away as stardust.

itsuka, nee.

That one day…
Please…
When we meet once again,
At least, be gentle.

“Tonight as well, indulge as you please,” I say,
Embracing a twisted form of romance.

At this point, my crumbling strength of will replaced,
I cling – Please, give me just one look.

For us to do after all, ahh…

ato doredake uso wo kasanereba.

Just how many more lies of love must I repeat
So that I may be your star?

uso wo narabete ikiru dake de,
nani mo kaerare nado shinai no ni.

I only keep living by lying,
It is not as if anything could ever change.

sore demo, moshi anata ni dakaretara.
anata no ichiban’boshi ni naretara.

But still, if I could be embraced by you,
If I could become your brightest star…

son’na koto wo yumemiru kokoro dake.
zutto, zutto, kawaranai.

If anything, my heart still dreaming of us,
Will never, ever change.

dakara, nee.
douka, nee.
deatta sono toki wa,
douka, aa, douka.

So then…
Please…
When we meet once again,
Please, oh please…

-kono na wo yon’de,
-itsumo no you ni.
-kaerenaku shite ne.

-Say my name,
-Just as you always did,
-And don’t leave, but stay.

I think that you missed a verse between “決まっているのに。嗚呼。” and “嘘を並べて生きるだけで、”.

I saw someone else made a lyric video of this just ONE day after this was published. It only use 1 still image and I think I could spiced it up

  1. i found it by accident, that the first stanza seem to be a poem https://kobun.weblio.jp/content/%E3%81%82%E3%81%9D%E3%81%B3%E3%82%92%E3%81%9B%E3%82%80%E3%81%A8%E3%82%84 a video where they sung it here https://youtu.be/WuMo_G0mIAk
