想ひそめしか // Omoi-someshika

Requested by: Izanami

Sorry for the drop in posts lately – I’ve had an ongoing headache (you know the ones that last for 5 or so days D:)

I think the lyrics match the arrangement quite nicely – Kara-kara-ri Kara-kara-ri~ and have a great rhythm to them.

Notes:
“That child” is said in a manner that refers to a girl/woman (I’ll give the role to Youmu). Given the title, this is about a woman (I’ll assign the role to Yuyuko) who receives a message that her lover has died. But she knows beforehand in her heart. You can assign the lovers role to a faceless male or Yukari (less probable) at your discretion, though these roles are simply to reference things unsaid and don’t have to be.

You can either interpret the end as suicide, or a deep loss in her heart.

からからら からからり 歯車はめぐりゆき
からからら からからり 春の色咲き誇る
この子から訊かずとも 私にはわかるから
その痛み もどかしさ それゆえの 愛しさも

Kara-Kara-Ra Kara-Kara-Ri, The gears keep turning
Kara-Kara-Ra Kara-Kara-Ri, And spring colors blossom proudly
Even if I do not hear it from that child I know..
That pain, that impatience, and the love born from both

胸の奥にある 答えを知るべきか
ひらひらゆらめく 花は笑うだけ
そっと髪をなでる 優しすぎた抱擁
どうしてあなたに 心許したか

Should I know the answers to what is inside my heart?
Swaying back and forth, this flower only smiles
Softly running your fingers through my hair, your overly warm embrace
Why did I let my guard down in front of you?

からからら からからり 歯車は めぐりゆき
からからら からからり 春の色 咲き誇る
純粋なこの子には 少しだけ教えるわ
恋はみな 想うだけ 大切に したくなる

Kara-Kara-Ra Kara-Kara-Ri, The gears keep turning
Kara-Kara-Ra Kara-Kara-Ri, And spring colors blossom proudly
I’ll tell her something, that pure, innocent child
Love is simply longing for each other, wanting to hold one precious

このまま貴女が 還らずとなったら
過ぎ去るこの世は 意味を無くすでしょう
それでも私は 花舞う階(きざはし)へ
想いをうずめて なくすことはない

If you will never return,
This passing world will lose its meaning
Even so, I’ll head towards that stair where the flowers dance
Taking these feelings into my breast, I will not lose them

胸の奥にある 答えを知るべきか
ひらひらゆらめく 花は笑うだけ
そっと髪をなでる 優しすぎた抱擁
どうしてあなたに 心許したか

Should I know the answers to what is inside my heart?
Swaying back and forth, this flower only smiles
Softly running your fingers through my hair, your overly warm embrace
Why did I let my guard down in front of you?

からからら からからり この子から伝わって
からからら からからり 庭よ染まれ

Kara-Kara-Ra Kara-Kara-Ri, I heard from that child..
Kara-Kara-Ra Kara-Kara-Ri, O garden, be stained..

Could you explain something? Why is romanized as “omoi” if there’s no “い”?

    • It has to do with classical Japanese. 想う was originally spelled 想ふ, and 想う as 想ひ, orthography/sound changes make all in-phrase h consonants into w consonants, and if there is no w counterpart (basically if it doesn’t become “wa”) it falls back to the a-row, so ひ (hi) is pronounced い (i) ^_^

It’s spelled that way because it uses an old grammatical structure/auxiliary “そめ” (“some”), but sometimes things are spelled the old way for an atmospheric shift.

Classical Japanese grammar is very interesting if you ever get the chance to look into it.

      ^_^
